We can definitely help you, but first you need to help us. The first step in this process is to apply Service Pack 1a for Windows XP, or Service Pack 4 if you are running Win2k. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time.
Apply the update, reboot, and post a fresh Hijack This log.

Thanks, but due to my circumstances I cant install sp1a. basically this is a friends pc. they have no modem as they use telewest BB and I only have dial up. So far im downloading stuff to my laptop to transfer to the desktop. I have sp2 on disc which will be installed prior to its return, also a new anti virus and firewall will be installed. However I need the pc to be clean before using the sp2 disc to avoid any problems.

So can you help get it clean first?

cheers

Hi Riko,

Without either SP1a or validation that the copy of Windows is genuine, we have a site policy where we cannot assist you. An indication that Windows may not be genuine is where no service packs have been installed.

Alternatively windows can be validated by doing the following, this however again requires internet access.

*Please go http://www.howtotell.com ]here[/URL] (Microsoft website) using Internet Explorer ( not Firefox or any other browser as they won't work)
*Click on "Windows Validation Assistant"
*Click on the "Validate Now" button.
*Be patient while the ActiveX loads, do not click on any links.
*Read the instructions on this page while it's loading. You will be prompted to install - click YES.
*Enter your product key then click "continue"
*When it says "Validation Complete" please click "Continue to return to your previous activity"
*Copy what it says and paste it here.

Then carry out fresh HJT which will indicate that this has been carried out.

I hope you understand that i must adhere to site policy. If you can access the internet with the machine to carry out the above procedure or submit a log that shows Service pack updates, i can quickly clean your system.

thanks for the reply but there isnt really any way to connect the PC to the net until its back home. The version of windows is 100% valid but of course theres no way for you to know if Im telling the truth.

Im still having a go on my own and have basically removed all the spyware following other threads on here. I need to defrag, install AVG and zone alarm and fix some other programs which have gone wrong. Once thats done Ill install SP2 from the CD I have and post a new HJT log which should hopfully be clean.

thanks anyway

riko

Hi Graham,

Looks like you have done a good job following the instructions from other posts and i'm pleased to see you have upgraded.

Just 1 thing to do

Reboot into SAFE MODE, rescan with HJT and check the following entry

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank

Ensure no windows open except HJT and click fix checked

Reboot normally, rescan with HJT and post the log back
