Creating a website, Help please

Hey so me and a couple friends came up with an idea for a website but we aren't sure with the process of making the website like the first steps into putting our information on the web. the idea would require users to input a list of information and the output would recognize the info and show the results from the input. Sorry if I'm butchering the explanation. sort of like college course equivalency websites. for example if I was at Stanford trying to transfer to Harvard I would go to Harvard's course equivalency site put in my Stanford classes and it will show me the Harvard equivalent classes. Please help!
