Hi,

Please do the following:

  • Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
  • Double-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service.
  • In the Startup type: box, click Manual, and then click Apply.
  • Click the Log On tab, and then verify that the service is enabled in every hardware profile that is listed. If the service is disabled in one or more hardware profiles, click the hardware profile, click Enable, and then click Apply.
  • Click the General tab, and then click Start.

Now, visit the Windows Update to see if the issue persists. If you successfully receive updates, follow steps 1 to 3 again, though, this time, in step 3, choose Automatic instead of Manual.

Next: > Export the BITS key:

What I need for you to do is as follows:

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt

Copy and paste in the following command line:

regedit /e "%userprofile%\Desktop\BITS_Export.txt" HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BITS

Press the Enter key.

The above should place a copy of the BITS_Export registry key on your desktop as a text file.

Please open the text file and copy and paste all of it's contents into your next reply.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let me know the results.
Thank you,
Joe :)
Hi drater66,
Thank you for the info. The Windows Update Log you provided in the Dropbox link gave the error codes I was looking for. Please allow me a moment to prepare my next set of instructions. I'll post back as soon as possible.
Thank you kindly for your patience.
Hi Justin,
Before you begin, go to Start > Control Panel > Folder Options and make sure to uncheck Hide extensions for known file types first. Click Apply > OK.
First, I would like for you to export the key to the desktop for safe keeping. To do so, please follow these instructions:
Copy and paste the following command line into your command prompt and press your Enter key:
regedit /e "%userprofile%\Desktop\BITS_Export.reg" HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BITS
The above should export a copy of the key onto your desktop in the form of a .reg file for safe keeping that looks like this -->Posted Image
Always a good idea to have a back up if anything goes wrong. Please do not delete the export of this key till I ask you to. If you do not see the .reg file on your desktop, please stop and let me know.
Next:
Copy and paste everything in the quote box below into your notepad:
Darn! Ok. Please do the following:
Download Dotnetfx cleanup tool. zip to your desktop.
  • Unzip the tool if needed.
  • Run the exe file
  • Click through the EULA popups
  • On the screen to select which version to cleanup, click the drop down arrow to the right and choose .NET Framework 2.0
    Posted Image
  • Click the Cleanup Now button.
    Next:
    Try to install the update again through Windows Updates. If no success;
    Download the .Net Framework 2.0 from here and install.
Once done reboot the computer.
Let me know the outcome and please include any error codes you receive in the process.
We did something, the clean up tool ended saying "couldn't complete clean up", but i went ahead and tried to install updates and rebooted. Now I only have one update that won't install:
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5 (KB951847) x86
but i also have two that say "Remaining High-Priority Updates"?
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Update for Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB982168)
Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 SP2 on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB2756918)
should i go ahead and install the .Net Framework 2.0?
Thanks
Go to Windows Updates and click on Review your update history in the left column found under Options. Look to see which updates had installed recently. If you could get a screen shot of those, that would be great!
No sense in trying to install an update that is already installed....
If you can get me another screen shot of the ones that are still failing that would be a plus, as well. :)
