XP machine so pretty old but it is my favourite computer out of all three.
Came with a cdrw drive & dvd rom drive.
Replaced the dvd rom with a dvdrw drive a couple of times, easy to do, the only difficulty was the restricted space within the tower.
The dvdrw drive failed & purchased a new one, bearing in mind the connection is pata (ide) whereas the new recorder is sata, no problem. I purchased a pata to sata adaptor.

Easy to fit, restarted the computer, new hardware found & installed.
Inserted a disc, nothing happened, the drawer opened okay. Looked in My computer neither the new drive appeared or even the other one (cdrw). Looked in device manager, nothing listed.
Removed this new drive & did not replace with the existing one. Restarted & the cdrw drive now shows in My computer & device manager.
I have no idea what is going on.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.
