IE 10 installation problem

no,I did it the lazy and just did a "search" for the directory and did not bother to look for it manually. since, no matches were found. ok, so now, I copied and pasted the files to the directory and ran the surt program. I rebooted my pc and the on/off windows it's still blank. here's the log you asked for.............

p.s. I did not copied and pasted the files one at the time, like you suggested. I copied and pasted them all at one time. do you think this might affected the surt installation? just wondering..............

Hi rigs,

Donna has asked me to take a look at your thread for you, so here I am :)

Windows Update Package Replacement

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  • Please download the attached file, Packs.zip and save this to your Desktop.
  • Right-click on the file and select Extract All...
  • Tick the box labelled Show extracted files when complete then click Extract
  • A window will open showing two folders, Manifests and Packages
  • Open the Manifests folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

  • Open the Packages folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

  • Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again.
  • When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:

    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

I did as suggested and rebooted my pc and checked the features on/off and they're back..........

if you mean my pc, yes. I'm getting ready to check the IE10 box and see if it will install and work. which was my original posting for help........ I'll let you know either way.........

ok, I checked the IE10 box, installed it and rebooted my pc. I clicked on the IE10 icon in all programs menu. the IE10 starting page came up but it was all blank and it stay on for about 10-15 seconds. I tried it three times with the same results. I then went to control panel>programs>view installed programs and uninstalled IE10, just like you suggested it a few post back. so, now I have IE9 and it's working. I hope that I did not do something that I wasn't suppose to...................

Hi rigs,

Please go to Start > Control Panel > Windows Update

In the left panel, click on Check for updates

Let's see if IE10 is offered as an update.

ok, I thought that I had IE9 installed but after checking it's IE8. now, in the windows update IE9,10 and 11 are there. do I update one after the other after making sure they're working properly?

Let's take it one step at a time. The fact that you installed IE10 (I assume from Windows Updates) and it didn't function properly has me very worried. You said that you uninstalled IE10.

I want to verify which version of IE is installed. Let's double check this:

  • Open IE.
  • In the Menu bar click on Help.
  • Navigate your mouse to About Internet Explorer and click.

What version of IE is displayed there?

Now, please click on your Start orb.
  • Next click on Control Panel,
  • Click on Windows Update.
  • In the lower left of the left hand panel under See also look for and click on Installed Updates.

Allow time for the updates to populate (you should see a green bar scroll across the top).

Type expl into the Search Installed Updates field in the upper right hand corner.

Which version of IE is displayed?

At this time, please do not update IE till I review your answer.

ok, I checked on IE>help>about and it was IE8

Then, I went to control panel>programs>view installed updates and typed "expl" on search installed update and no matches were found....

Ok. rigs?

For the time being......

Please click on Start > Control Panel > Windows Update
In the left side panel, click on Change settings
Under Important updates, click on the drop down arrow to the far right and choose:

Check for updates but let me choose to download and install them

At the bottom of the window, click on OK and close. This way no update will download and try to install. We'll change it back when we are finished.

I'd like to discuss this with my associates before we proceed with the next step. I believe that IE8 comes integrated on Win7 so it may not display in Windows Updates but I want to be certain.

Please be patient. I should have an answer for you be morning.

Good morning rigs,

Here is what we are going to do. Since you had issue with IE9 and 10, we are going to have you install the update for IE11 and ignore the updates for IE9 and 10. Windows detecting all 3 version of IE is perfectly normal and a really good thing. It means that the only version installed is IE8.

So, please go to Windows Update and choose to install IE11. Make sure that IE9 and 10 are not checked.

Once the update is installed click on Help in the browser and verify that IE11 is the version installed. Also verify this through View Installed Updates.

ok, I went to windows update and IE11 was not there, IE9 and 10 were. should I download IE11 from windows web page or wait to see if reappears in windows update?

Hi rigs,

Download and install IE11 from the link below:

Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 64-bit Edition and Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit Edition.
