I have a Asus laptop G72Gx... few months ago the electrical cord broke and I went to Best Buy and bought a universal one, I can be on the laptop all day no issues, but once I start to play World of Warcraft, the battery gets so hot that its to hot to touch, also the brightness blinks lite darker, and so on... to the point I have to get off the game it also makes a strange noise as its lighting and get brighter then dimmer... Is it because its a universal electrical cord I bought??

Do you have a link to the replacement electrical cord that you purchased so that we can take a look.

The extra heat may be a result of the graphics chip working harder.
What are the temperatures like where the notebook is being used.
Is the notebook used on a flat and even surface at all times.

Have you tried removing the battery and using the notebook while only the AC adapter is providing the power, if not please do so and let us know the outcome as in the computers behavior and whether or not the adapter itself gets hot.

You could try reducing the heat inside the notebook by giving it a basic clean out with canned compressed air, a guide to help with this available from Here, it is a HP tutorial but the principle is basically the same.

I purchased this at best buys... So last night I was trying to play World of warcraft and it was heating up and flashing brightness to dime with a small funny noise as it would lag out... This AM I get on World of warcraft and no issues at all... I have noticed that before also so its like the less people on playing WOW (world of Warcraft) Im ok.. but when alot of people are on I have issues, that what it sounds like to me... Also I purchased a Rosewill cooling fan my laptop sits on while I am on laptop.... If I remove the battery, when it gets hot it just all of a sudden shuts down.... Thank you also Phillpower2.. Rocketfish is not the best of brands and so not one that I would recommend, the power adapter however may not be at fault here.

Can you please answer all of the questions that I asked;

What are the temperatures like where the notebook is being used.

Is the notebook used on a flat and even surface at all times.

If I remove the battery, when it gets hot it just all of a sudden shuts down....

In the house, its usually set on 77 the ac Im hoping thats what your asking lol.... I am on a dinning room glass table top so flat.. tho having it on the cooling fan the Rosewell it is slightly tilted down a tiny tiny bit....

correct it gets hot weather the battery is in our out of the laptop.... Hope this helps and answered to your understanding...

The battery would not appear to be the problem so it is back to the AC adapter, would it be possible for you to borrow a compatible AC adapter to try with your notebook to see if the problem is still present, if not you could ask a local tech or tech store to check the voltage on the Rocketfish AC adapter, if the voltage of the AC adapter is too high for the notebook it will get hot and when you are gaming the power supply is working harder and so it will also be getting hotter.

What happens if you disconnect the AC adapter and use only the battery to power the notebook when you are gaming.

It would help if you could provide a link to the Rocketfish adapter that you have.

Just so that you are aware Rocketfish supply so called compatible adapters such as yours that produce up to 24V and that is why we need to check the one that you have, see example Here that produces up to 24V

You should also read the reviews at the bottom of the amazon page - they are not very good

I don't have the package around me at this time for the info on it for the Rocketfish, also I don't know anyone near me that I can borrow there ac cord from, Im at the point I rather just go purchase one that is excatly like what comes with this laptop... like Asus site or so... Any ideas? Your opinion?

It is very hard for me to answer your question with 100% certainty, I would do the clean out of dust first as it will help with the internal cooling in any event (the cooling fan could be clogged),example cleaning guide and then take the notebook and Rocketfish adapter to a reputable computer store and explain the problem, they will then be able to test the Rocketfish adapter and try a suitable adapter with your notebook, this is the only way that I can advise regarding the adapter as we would not like you to spend any money if it is not necessary.

It runs normally but battery life goes quick.... the fan (Rosewill is clean as can be as I look all over it and touching it... But like I said seems in morning time I am having No issues at all... Seems to happen in evening time only... thats whats weird... I played this am for a while with no issues at all no over heating nothing... I will try in a few minutes again to see what happens then...

This may suggest that the battery needs replacing.
Please note that you should not use a notebook with both the battery and AC adapter connected and powered up unless it is to charge the battery, if you do it will shorten the life span of the battery and cause possible malfunctions.

The cooling fan that I refer to is the notebooks own internal one which cannot be seen without opening the notebook case, that is why the basic cleaning guide shows how to direct short blasts of compressed air through the exhaust vents etc.
