Hi everyone:

Due to my Vista system losing the hard drive, I needed a new computer - yes, it is Windows 8.1. My question is what is suggested to keep it running in tip-top shape? It currently has a trial version of McAfee installed and I am not a fan. On my old system, I was using the free version of Avast! along with Malwarebytes, SpywareBlaster and a paid copy of TuneUp Utilities. Can anyone suggest if these should be installed on my new Windows 8/8.1 system or if I should try something else? I have not yet installed anything security/privacy related and am relying on the tools that came with the system.

Thank you!
Janet

not sure about tuneup compatibility with win 8.1. The rest of the utilities works fine with it. Just remember to uninstall McAfee first.

also, if you want a start menu (not just the ability to boot to desktop) feel free to try classic shell.
