Hello! Recently my work place office upgraded their computers, so I took my old work PC to his home. Ofcourse, company IT guys erased everything on the hard drive - even OS. So I try to install Windows XP on it through USB drive(since that worked marvelously for my laptop) and I get these messages:

Media test failure,check cable
Exiting HP PXE ROM

and then it goes to this screen with this text:

System disk or disk error
Replace and strike any key when ready.

SO, I naturally go to the BIOS setup to see what's going on there. Change my boot order to:

USB device
Hard Drive
....
....;

Same thing happens. I tried every single usb port which is available in that computer(there are 6 USB ports) in case any of them doesn't work for whatever reason. Still the same result.
Then I looked into some BIOS options and see 'Removable Media Boot' is disable, so I enable it. Still the same result.

I think I'm out of options so I ask for your help. One thin that might help resolve the issue, is to insert a CD disk with Windows XP, but I don't have one, and it's a bit late atm.
Do you think CD with windows XP will help or there are different solutions?

Computer model: HP Compaq dc7100 SFF(DX878AV).

Thank you in advance!

The "HP PXE ROM" failure was the computer attempting to boot from a network device which as you know is no longer available.

Am I correct that you are trying to install XP from a USB thumb drive.
From where was the XP software that you are attempting to use obtained.

Some information here that may be of help.

Thanks for the answer!

I actually made a mistake and I didn't make my USB drive to be bootable, so I fixed it, but I now have a different problem.
Computer now tries to boot the installations, but it's stuck there now, no mater how long I leave it there(left that PC alone for 30 min I believe).

The .iso I made is from a dvd disk that my friend gave me back in 2009, when I used to ask him to fix problems for me. Don't really know where he got it from (probably downloaded it from a torrent site, but I really don't know).

The link you gave me has interesting options. I'm particularly interested in those HP recovery disks. I'll ask IT guys in my work if they have a recovery disk......but will it work when there is no Windows installed on the hard drive? Remember, they did wipe all data from the hard drive since it was a work PC for a bank company.

If the XP product key sticker is still on the computer you could try and borrow the exact version of a legitimate XP disk and do a fresh installation, there are no legitimate XP ISOs available to download so I suggest you dismiss that option and see if HP still provide the installation disk for the machine, these typically cost between $30 and $50 but at least they are on the correct side of the law.

See here for further information.

You are welcome btw :)
