The AOL icon is missing in the sys tray, lower right of screen.

Have you tried rebooting / restarting the computer to see if the aol icon comes back?

I see the aol software running at start, that should create the Icon in the system tray.
O4 - HKLM..\Run: [HostManager] C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\1303858014\ee\aolsoftware.exe (AOL Inc.)

Reguarding Internet Explorer.

The werfault.exe is used for Windows Error Reporting. It is a feature that allows Microsoft to track and address errors relating to the operating system, Windows features, and applications. It gives you the option to send data about errors to Microsoft and to receive information about solutions.
You can access settings for Windows Error Reporting here:
Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Problem Reports and Solutions > Change settings > Advanced settings
Try turning it off temporarily and see if this will fix the problem.

Only secure content is displayed.

This message arises when you visit a website that contains mixed content, encrypted https and non-encrypted http on the same web page.
To turn off or disable this message open Internet Explorer > Internet Options > Security tab > Custom level > Under Settings > Under Display mixed content, select Enable. Click Apply/OK/Exit. Close IE and Reboot computer.

1 popup saying browser out of date--Get FireFox

When do you get that? Are you in Internet explorer when you get that pop up about Firefox?

Since you already have adwcleaner installed would you please run that once more, Lets see what that shows, just in case something got in.

  • Double-click AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Note: Windows Vista, Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
  • Click the Scan button.
  • AdwCleaner will begin. Be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
  • After the scan has finished, click the Report button. A logfile (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for review.
  • The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, please let me know about it.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
  • A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.

In your next reply:

  • Tell me about the AOL Icon after rebooting.
  • Tell me about werfault.exe
  • Tell me about only secure content is displayed.
  • Post the AdwCleaner[R0].txt

Thanks
Joe :)

Hi Joe

" Have you tried rebooting to see if AOL icon returns"----After rebooting 2 times the AOL icon returned
" Werfault.exe & Only secure content displayed"----When going into my homepage att.yahoo.com, the message --Only secure content is displayed showed up 2 or 3 times, I would close the
message by hitting the X,then IE would intermitently lock up and a message IE Not Responding would show. When this happened I
restarted the computer.-----Windows Error Reporting is turned off----as far as the content settings i'll leave that alone, as
it only happened when IE was messing up

I may need to run a Defrag, its a little past due.

Thanks
Lester

Hi Joe

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with ESET, but since running it, on reboot the desktop loads then about 10 sec later all the shortcuts turn white and then reload 3 or 4 at a time until all are reloaded. On Sunday afternoon, defrag ran on auto it's set to run weekly. Also IE has acted up one more time, I had to close IE and restart it.

Thanks for all your help, I'm lost witout it

Hi falcor2,

ESET does not make any changes, nor does it remove anything. It's simply a scanner, that being said, it's "unlikely" it had anything to do with any issues you're are experiencing.

Also IE has acted up one more time

Was there an error? Can you be more specific ? We have had so many issues with IE it may time to reset IE. I'll get back to you on that.

on reboot the desktop loads then about 10 sec later all the shortcuts turn white and then reload 3 or 4 at a time until all are reloaded

Is this occurring on every reboot now?

Please answer my questions as best as possible, I'm preparing a fix to remove that stuff ESET and awcleaner found and I'll post back with that instruction set for you.

Thanks
Joe :)

I understand, just using as a timeline, I did not notice this happening before running the OTL Fix, ESET, and Malwarebytes on 3/Dec/2013.

Yes, this is happening on every reboot since running the OTL Fix, ESET, and Malwarebytes on 3/Dec/2013.

IE--Was there an error? Can you be more specific ?

No, there was no error code, just the message only secure content is displayed. This has happened 1 in 10 times and only on my homepage sofar. I did notice several web pages are loading alot slower than normal including my homepage and G2G to name a few.

Thanks

Lester

Hi Lester,

Your home page is yahoo.com is that correct?

How do you connect to the internet? AOL Dial up, DSL, High speed cable. Do you have a router and modem? If you have a router, un- plug it for a bit then replug in back in to see if that helps slow loading web pages.

Thanks
Joe :)

Hi Joe

Your home page is yahoo.com is that correct?

We use att.yahoo.com

How do you connect to the internet? AOL Dial up, DSL, High speed cable. Do you have a router and modem? If you have a router, un- plug it for a bit the replug in back in to see if that helps slow loading web pages.

We have ATT DSL with a router, I tried unplugging the router for 15 min, no change in slow loading web pages. I also tried at different times between 9:00 AM and 1:00 AM EST with very little to no change noticed.

Thanks

Hello Falcor2

Lets clean up what we have.

  • Double click on the Posted Image to open the program. On Vista/Win7/Win8 right click select Run As Administrator to start the program. If prompted by UAC, please allow it.
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

    :COMMANDS
    [CREATERESTOREPOINT]

    :FILES
    C:\Program Files\Uninstall Information\ib_uninst_342\uninstall.exe
    C:\Program Files\Uninstall Information\ib_uninst_514\uninstall.exe
    C:\Program Files\Uninstall Information\ib_uninst_555\uninstall.exe
    C:\Program Files\Uninstaller\Uninstall.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\X6BOI4I5\delta4[1].exe

    :Commands
    [emptytemp]

  • Make sure all other windows are closed.
  • Click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run uninterrupted. The computer should reboot when the scan is done. If not, please reboot the computer.
  • Post the log that is found in C:\_OTL\Moved Files in your next reply.
  • Open OTL again and click the Quick Scan button.

Lets clean up what adwcleaner found.

Double-click AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool again.
  • Click the Scan button.
Note: Windows Vista, Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
  • AdwCleaner will begin to scan your computer like it did before.
  • After the scan has finished...
  • This time click on the Clean button.
  • Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.
  • Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
  • After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S0].txt) will open automatically.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
  • A copy of that logfile will also be saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder.

Please post the following logs in your next reply:

C:\_OTL\Moved Files
  • OTL.txt
  • AdwCleaner[S0].txt

Improve performance by defragmenting your hard disk

Fragmentation makes your hard disk do extra work that can slow down your computer. Disk Defragmenter rearranges fragmented data so your hard disk can work more efficiently. Disk Defragmenter runs on a schedule, but you can also defragment your hard disk manually.

To defrag:
Open Disk Defragmenter by clicking the Start button clicking All Programs, clicking Accessories, clicking System Tools, and then clicking Disk Defragmenter. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.Click Defragment Now.

Disk Defragmenter might take from several minutes to a few hours to finish, depending on the size and degree of fragmentation of your hard disk. You can still use your computer during the defragmentation process.

Post the logs, then do the Defrag.

Let me know how things are after the defrag!

Thanks
Joe :)

Hi Joe

I ran the OTL Fix and Quick Scan, then went to run AdwCleaner and was directed to an update 3.015. The new AdwCleaner report is now (AdwCleaner[S1].txt).

After posting I will run Defrag.

Thanks

Lester

Hi Joe

After running the things in your last post and then a defrag the computer seems to boot faster. The web pages are loading faster sofar, but i'm still getting the double load of the desk top icons though now they reload all at the same time, about 7-10 sec after the desk top loads. I noticed that Viewpoint Media Player is removed again, won't it come back when we go back into AOL?

Thanks

Hi,

I noticed that Viewpoint Media Player is removed again, won't it come back when we go back into AOL?

"Viewpoint Media Player" has been included with various products from AOL.
What Products do you use?
What do you use AOL For?

Refresh my memory, it's been a while since I've seen AOL.

I'll be very blunt with you:
If this were my computer, I'd be getting rid of anything called AOL. Take control of your computer.

Thanks
Joe :)

Hi Joe

What AOL Products do you use? What do you use AOL For?

We had AOL Desktop 9.7 installed, from back when we had dialup service. This was our old home page and we used it for all access to the internet, mail, friends and contacts. AOL Desktop 9.7 has been removed, and we will go to AOL.com until we can get all our mail comming to a new account.

Thanks

Hi Falcor2,

We had AOL Desktop 9.7 installed, from back when we had dialup service.

I kind of figured that was a left over from way back.

What issues remain?

but i'm still getting the double load of the desk top icons

Are we still having that issue above? That's a weird one....

Thanks
Joe :)

PS: This website is loading slow for me too. Just in case you're are experiencing it also.

Hi Joe

Yes, this still happens 7-10 sec after the desktop loads.

Other than that, reboot time is about where it used to be and web pages are loading a lot better.

One question, Will Norton NIS stop incomming and outgoing threats when using usb flash drives or will I need something else.-----My wife has a laptop with the same do-search hijacker and i'm not sure if she moved it to or from the main computer with a usb flash drive.

Thanks for all your help on this
Maybe this old computer and me have a few years left

I think you said you're going to post a new topic on that. That's the way to go, because it may have other add/ware related items.

Will Norton NIS stop incomming and outgoing threats when using usb flash drives

It should stop some, but I don't think it's going to stop all. I'm working on several machines that have Norton NIS Installed, and They have quite a bit of add/ware.

You can scan the USB Flash drive too. Right click the Moveable storage device(USB) as seen in MYComputer and select Scan with your Anti Virus. I'll provide more information on that.

Since you removed AOL, I'd like you to do a scan with OTL and Post it now, I want to double check everything looking at a fresh otl scan.

Do a scan, and post the log that pops up.

Thanks
Joe :)
