Recently i noticed most .avi vidoes have poor picture quality on Windows Media Player in Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit. Jagged lines around the images in the videos.
Very few .avi i have play fine, movies .avi which do not on Windows Media Player.

When i play these same .avi videos in Cyberlink PowerDVD the picture is good.

I have tried resetting Windows Media Player through troubleshooting but this did not help at all.

I have most recent video drivers for my graphics card which is NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti SSC.

I have posted both images of each player to see what i mean.

Sounds like a codec problem with WMP.

Hi Zt, Yes some have told me this.WMP is set for updates.

I am not sure what Codec is needed,i am not willing to use a whole codec pack.

In past i found these Codec packs can screw up a lot on your PC.

What is weird is not all .avi, mostly movie ones are like this.
Tried for answers in Eight Forums too.

As i see it, it seems best that i then use Cyberlink PowerDVD to play these files instead.

Thanks for the reply.!

Another free option would be VLC Media Player. It plays just about anything.

Alright thanks Zt, i saw that one before,, i know there is many free options out there.

I never recall this happening as i have said in past post here and Eight Forums, when i had it on Windows 7.
This must be something with changes in Windows 8.1 with WMP. Which i have now

But i am happy with Cyberlink PowerDVD,since i purchased it,plays Blu-ray and many other formats also has a good picture and sound.

Thanks again.
