Greetings ... Here is my log file from Hijack This. I'm not certain which files to delete and would appreciate any advice. I ran AdAware, Spybot S&D, MacAfee, and Stinger, but my problems seem to be getting worse. I cannot access any web pages or donwload my email, even though my Earthlink dial-up shows that it is connected. Even though my default web page is at Yahoo, my browser tries to go to some site at Tripod.com. I was about to wipe everything when a friend recommended this site.

Hi Mackee 5

Welcome to Geeks to Go. :D

You have malware we need to fix, but first you need to apply Windows Critical updates. Without critical updates, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time.
-or-
Order if you're on dial-up, order a free CD here:
http://www.microsoft...default810.mspx

When you're through, please delete your temporary files by deleting all files and folders that are in those folders (do not delete the temp folder itself) like for example
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\
C:\Temp\
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\
Also delete your Temporary Internet Files, be sure to also select delete all offline content.

Reboot and post a new HJT log.

Hi Mackee 5. Sorry it took so long to get back with you.

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure.

Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

O2 - BHO: DriveLetterAccess - {5CA3D70E-1895-11CF-8E15-001234567890} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\dla\tfswshx.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [B83B757B] C:\WINDOWS\System32\mqxhdnzhldv.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows Update Service] smcg.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Time Manager] dveldr.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [D1CAB718] C:\WINDOWS\System32\mqxhdnzhldv.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Windows Update Service] smcg.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Time Manager] dveldr.exe
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - (no file)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Sun Java Console - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - (no file)

Reboot in safe mode (by tapping F8 at startup and select safe mode from the menu).
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold (if found):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\smcg.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dveldr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\mqxhdnzhldv.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dla\tfswshx.dll

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and let us know how your system's working.

Greetings Coachwife6,

I carefully followed your instructions and thankfully seem to be free of the hijacker now. I couldn't find any of the files you listed in safe mode. The only issue I'm now having is extremely slow connection speed. Since I installed WIN SP2, I am connecting to the internet at speeds of only 7 Kbps - 12Kbps.

Here is my Hijack This log file, after your recommendations. Again, I greatly appreciate your assistance. I was ready to give up on this before your help.

THANK YOU!

How is the connection speed? Did you recently switch servers? I saw that you were on Earthlink. Have you checked with them? They will usually direct you to the phone company. Please let us know how your computer is working.

And don't ever give up! <_<

Hello,

It took me a while to get back because I cannot stay connected to the internet long enough to write this. Earthlink said that their connection is OK. My connection speed is still extremely poor .. between 4 - 12Kbps. After about two minutes online, I lose my ability to connect to any web sites or email, even though I am still connected to the internet.

Here is my recent Hijack This log file:

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [msn] msnmsg.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] C:\WINDOWS\UpdReg.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dla] C:\WINDOWS\system32\dla\tfswctrl.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [msn] msnmsg.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [msn] msnmsg.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [msn] msnmsg.exe

Reboot in safe mode (by tapping F8 at startup and select safe mode from the menu).
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold (if found):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\msnmsg.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dla\tfswctrl.exe

When you're through, please delete your temporary files by deleting all files and folders that are in those folders (do not delete the temp folder itself) like for example
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\
C:\Temp\
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\
Also delete your Temporary Internet Files, be sure to also select delete all offline content.

Reboot and post a new HJT log.

Reboot in safe mode (by tapping F8 at startup and select safe mode from the menu). Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\msnmsg.exe

Next, please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [msn] msnmsg.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [msn] msnmsg.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [msn] msnmsg.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [msn] msnmsg.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE

Reboot your PC.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log, and let us know how your system's working. <_<
