As I wait for reply to my other thread, I suppose I could try and solve the mystery that likely led to it: Inability to install Windows 7 and after a "Successful install", having it freeze on desktop.
So here is what I have done in a few lines:
I purchased a product key for Win7 Ultimate edition from http://www.windows7k...t-key-p-10.html from this site, then downloaded the .ISO from http://www.w7forums....wnloads.12325/.
I then used PowerISO at 8x speed to burn Windows 7 on a DvD with enough space to hold Win7 64bit edition. After it was done, I rebooted, went into the BIOS and set the load order to boot from disc on key press. I have done so when prompted, however, Windows 7 installer froze after "Starting Windows" on a blue wallpaper. I had a cursor that I could move around but it gave me no signs of loading anything. I left it running for 20 minutes but nothing had happened.
I decided to try a fix I saw online by disabling Legacy USB, but then I couldn't get into the menu since I noticed I didn't have PS/2 keyboard to navigate without my USB one. Being unable to enter BIOS, I took my PC apart and used the CMOS jumper to reset my BIOS to factory defaults.
And that is why I tried to install Win7 by using the Autorun option while running Windows XP. I chose custom install but without having formatted my drives. It took 6 hours to install and when I finally got to booting Windows 7, it hung at "Starting Windows" for a good 20 minutes, then it froze once it reached the desktop. I let it hang for 20 minutes but nothing happened. I then rebooted, reformated my drives, splitting them into two partitions, installing XP on the smaller one. It installed in 40 minutes, plus about twenty minutes for formatting. I had no system-side issue ever since, save for what I mentioned in my other topic.
I tried doing the install again, but no luck. It freezes after bootup after the "Starting Windows" scene, and I had not tried to reinstall using the one that appears while running XP.
Sorry about possible grammar and vocabulary mistakes. I've tried to keep this post short, and that often causes me to make less sense with my sentences.
Update: Tried to burn using Imgburn, as suggested on those boards, at x4 burn speed. No luck. I also noticed I originally burned Win7 x86 (32 bit), for it doesn't allow itself to be installed with Autorun if it's x64 (64 bit). It freezes just the same.
