OK I do not understand. It can not find such threads if it doesn't run.

When I try to install-- it doesn't do this. It just runs.

You can do the steps with FireFox or InternetExplorer. There is an option which asks you where you want to save the file. Please explain exactly what you are doing. I did the same steps under Win 8 and Win 7 - it worked for me.

I did run it twice and both times it disappeared so I was not able to follow the instructed steps through to the end. While running it had found one thread hiddenstart.A. -- I am going to try it again..

So you ran the program? You just didn't ran it as Administrator, but it was scanning?

Please give me a detailed report what doesn't work.

Thanks :) You are doing great so far!

This is not working as I am instructed.

There is no log where you said it would be.:\Program Files\ESET\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt. Does not exist.
From what I can tell the scanner runs "online" and does not install on my computer and I do not have an option to save it to my desktop and I cannot run it as an administrator.

This run - 3rd time ( my computer freezes/stops and has to reboot often) this time it completed and had two threats:

a variant of Win32/HiddenStart.A.application

Instructions please..

  • Step 1: TFC

Download TFC to your desktop
  • Right click on the TFC icon and select Run as Administrator
  • It will close all programs itself when run, make sure to let it run uninterrupted.
  • Click the Start button to begin the process. The program should not take long to finish its job
  • Once its finished it should reboot your machine, if not, do this yourself to ensure a complete clean

  • Step 2: ESET

  • If you have Win Vista / Win 7 / Win 8 please start IE as Administrator!
  • This will only work for Internet Explorer or FireFox
  • Please download ESET Online Scanner from here

How to do this?

  • Visit this website here
  • You will see a screen like this:

    • Click Run ESET Online Scanner

      Posted Image
    • A Window will open (see above) - please click on the link
    • A window will pop up - please download the file to your Desktop
    • When the download has finished please run the program (for Win Vista/ Win7 / Win 8 User please run it as Administrator) (If it doesn't ask you it will probably install a plugin and this isn't needed)

    • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use then click on: Start
    • You may see a panel towards the top of the screen telling you the website wants to install an addon... click and allow it to install. If your firewall asks whether you want to allow installation, say yes.

    • When completed the Online Scan will begin automatically. The scan may take several hours.
    • Do not touch either the Mouse or keyboard during the scan otherwise it may stall.

    • After the scan is finished please click on Finish
  • Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\ESET\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt.

I clicked the link for Eset:

link takes me to http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/

I am connected to the internet and it is active.

I get this:

This page can't be displayed

•Make sure the web address http://www.eset.com is correct.
•Look for the page with your search engine.
•Refresh the page in a few minutes.

Fix connection problems

Refresh did not change results.
I will try again in a 30 minutes.

Thank you for your patience.
