Hi! I have a refurbished HP Pavilion dv6 PC running Windows 7. It's a great machine, with 8GB of RAM.

A few weeks back, I started having the following issue. About 50 seconds after logging in to Windows, everything would freeze, except the cursor. I'd have to "force shutdown" the computer. This would happen every single time. I tried starting it from the last known good configuration, restoring to a previous point - nothing worked.

I reinstalled Windows and it all went fine. The PC was working properly during the last few weeks, but then, yesterday, the issue came back in exactly the same form. It's worth noting that the same thing happens even in safe mode. I get a few seconds and then everything freezes.

I'm looking to solve this for once and for all. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I tried a clean boot. That allowed me to use the PC for about 4 minutes before it froze on me again. What should I try next?

Try this:

• Run Diagnostics on the Hard Drive and RAM.
  
  Download and burn the Ultimate Boot CD (UBCD) to CD. It has Hard Drive and Memory (RAM) diagnostics (plus much more). Simply boot your computer from this CD and select the utility you want to run.
  
  

  Note: If you aren't sure who made the hard drive in your computer, use Seagate's Seatools as it will work with most any make of drive.

• If it passes both of those tests, then refresh Windows 7:
