Hello, Phil: Yes I have a 3510 Wireless that I use primarily with my iPad. I don't think I actually "installed" it to the notebook computer, but that the signal was detected? I forget.... Go to the full post »

HELLO again Geeks!

I have scoured HP site pages and found the driver needed to use my laser printer with my new Lenovo laptop, but it will not work.

Per note below from HP Cust Svcs, the driver works so I need HP tech support -- at a fee, of course -- since my perfectly working laser is no longer under warranty--
HP correspondence shows below:

"1. The HP LaserJet 1012 printer has an updated Windows 8 driver. So, if it still did not work after downloading the driver, then the problem here is with the printer. For proper help in connecting it to your computer, it is best that you call the HP Technical Support at 1.800.HPINVENT (1-800-474-6836) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Just be reminded that if your printer is no longer under warranty, the service will have a fee.

2. The HP LaserJet Pro P1102w Printer will indeed work with Windows 8. This is something which you don;t need to worry about. Here's a link where you can start your order for it -http://www.shopping.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Printers/HP-LaserJet/CE658A?HP-LaserJet-Pro-P1102w-Printer"

------------
While it's great that HP has a similar printer that would work with WIN 8, I'm not ready to buy another printer.

You Geeks helped me with my last virus infection and you were great...so I'm back again, hoping someone can help me with this HP PRINTER ISSUE which has worked find with XP and WIN 7.... Just not Win 8. ( I have not upgraded to 8.1 yet )

Thanks in advance!!

Hi again Phill:

Well, I followed all the the detailed pictures on the web site you referenced and I'm sorry to report that it didn't work for me.

I received all the same Result Messages on the web site. That is, I found the file hpc1015w and installed it.
My computer asked to print a TEST page but nothing happened.
I have attached a screen shot of my Print Window that shows the CORRECT PRINTER listed and also shows ERROR listed next to the status for the printer.

just to be sure it's not the printer, I unplugged it and plugged it back into my desktop and it printed a page just fine.

Just as info, my laptop chose the printer port of LPT1 which I think is usual.

I clicked the Printer Troubleshooter but it found nothing to report. (typical)

What would you suggest I try next?

Thanks!

Hello geeksugarbaby

Sorry to hear that you are still having printer problems :(

Couple of observations;
1: You screenshot shows that you also have a HP Deskjet 3510 installed.
2: From your last update "Just as info, my laptop chose the printer port of LPT1 which I think is usual."

Regarding the above;
1A: Do you have and use a HP Deskjet 3510 connected to the notebook.
1B: Is the HP Laser Jet 1012 as the Default printer, to check this go to Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers.

2A: LPT (line print terminal) is the usual designation for a parallel port used on older computers, you are using a USB connection and so I am not sure how or why the notebook detected and/or suggested the use of an LPT port.

Please answer questions 1A and 1B for us before we move on.

Ok... This was weird.
I went into Printer/Devices and yes, the Laser 1012 was green check marked as the default printer
A device SETUP window popped up and the green graph loaded.

After it did, an icon for "HP 1012 HB (copy)" popped up
I tried printing from the "original" icon... And got the same PRINTER ERROR message in the upper right corner of my screen.
I set the COPY as the default... And printed and IT WORKED!!!!

(( GeekSugarBsby does her HAPPY DANCE ))

so, my ??? Now is... Can I delete the ORIGINAL HP1012 printer icon and delete the word COPY from the one that works...without upsetting anything??

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you geeksugarbaby :(

In all honesty I would leave well alone now that the printer is working as it should, given time you will forget that there is an additional printer icon there, anyhow I am pleased that you now have it sorted and thank you for sharing the details so that it may help others who may read your topic looking for guidance with the same or a similar issue
