Hi

Can any one help, I have being following this process for trying to carry out a Factory restore on a Toshiba Pro Satellite 650;

1: Hold the zero key and press the power button

2: Release the zero key once the laptop bleeps, I have even tried releasing the key once the Toshiba screen appears and tap the zero key. The Lap top boots up normally

I have checked the hard drive and I can see the following file on the D partition;

HDD Recovery

What I found strange, I was able to open the D drive

According to the Users Guide, this is the process:

You can recover the original factory image (returning the computer
to its out-of-box state) using the utilities stored on your computer’s
internal storage drive or using recovery DVDs/media, if you have
created such media. To recover using the first method, follow the
procedure below. To recover using the second method, see
“Restoring from recovery DVDs/media” on page 76.

To recover the original factory image using the utilities on your
computer’s internal storage drive:

1 Make sure the computer is turned off.

2 While powering on your computer, press the F12 key when the
initial TOSHIBA screen displays.
The boot menu appears.

3 Using the arrow keys to scroll down, select the HDD Recovery
option, and then press the ENTER key.

4 If your system offers a choice of Windows® 7 32-bit or 64-bit
operating system, select one at this time. If not, skip to step 5.

5 A warning screen appears, stating that when the recovery is
executed, all data will be deleted and rewritten unless the
“Recovery of Factory Default Software with user’s data”
option is selected in the next step. Click Yes to continue.

6 When the Toshiba Recovery Wizard opens and the “Selecting a
process” screen displays, select Recovery of Factory Default
Software, and then click Next.

7 The Recovery of Factory Default Software screen appears.
Select Recover to out-of-box state.

8 Click Next.
A confirmation message displays reminding you that all data
will be lost during the recovery process. Be sure to save your
work to external media before proceeding (see “Backing up
your work” on page 111).

9 Click Next to begin the recovery.
When the recovery process is complete, a message displays
indicating that the internal storage drive has been recovered.

10 Click Finish to restart the computer.

This if from the user manual. Looks like you hold the key down until the recovery screen appears.
Did you burn a recover CD when you got the laptop?

Warning, Do not select option 3 from the recover screen.

You have the options of recovering your system using the
Hard Drive Recovery partition to the factory-set default, or
recovering just your C: drive and leaving other partitions (for
example, a D: drive) intact, or changing the size of your C:
drive and then recovering it.
To recover your hard disk drive using the utilities stored on
your computer’s HDD:
1
Make sure the computer is turned off.
2
Press and hold the 0 (zero) key on your keyboard while
powering on the computer. When the computer powers
on, the TOSHIBA HDD Recovery Utility screen
displays

PRESSING 1, YOU LOOSE ALL YOUR DATA.

1
Press 1 on the keyboard to recover your hard disk drive to its
original factory setting. A confirmation message displays
reminding you that all data will be lost during the recovery
process. Be sure you have saved your work before
proceeding.
2
Click Yes to begin the recovery. Once complete, a
message displays that the HDD has been recovered.
3
Press any key on the keyboard to restart the computer.

PRESSING 2 RESTORES THE OS/PROGRAMS, SAVES ALL YOUR DATA.

To recover only your C: drive:
1
Press 2 on the keyboard when the TOSHIBA HDD Recovery
Utility screen displays. A confirmation message appears,
reminding you that all information on the C: drive will be lost
during the recovery process. Be sure you have saved your
work before proceeding.
2
Click Yes to begin the restoration. Once complete, a
message displays that the HDD has been recovered.
3
Press any key on your keyboard to restart the computer.

Thanks for both prompt responses and apologies for my delay in responding. I have tried the suggestion of pressing the 0 key while switvinh on . I get the long bleep and when I release the key the laptop starts normally and doesn't reload windows recovery files

I have tried the other suggestion by pressing F12 key. I see the following;

Boot menu
1: Lan
2: HDD/ SDD
3 FDD
4: CD/DVD
5: USB
Enter Set up

When I enter set-up, along the top I see;
1:Main
2:Security
3:Power management
4:Advanced
5:Boot
6:Exit
I cant see or find " HDD Recovery section", am I missing something, I really appreciate you help if you can

Your welcome and not a problem Posted Image
Did you get a recovery CD with the computer?
No, don't think you have missed anything.
Try restart and continuously tap F8 during POST, what result?

Thanks once again, I pressed F8 and followed the "repair computer route" and I was successfully able to restore my Lap-top to Factory settings. Noe downloading the countless number of Windows updates, over 3 years to install. I have another issue about the size of the D partition, can it be shrunk to allow the "space" to go in to the C partition

Once again thanks to all who responded on my initial problem. w

Post a snapshot of a fullscreen Disk Management:

To open Disk Management, press Windows key+r, type diskmgmt.msc and press Enter or click GO. Make it full screen.

Vista and Windows 7: How to Use the Snipping Tool in Vista - Vista Forums (says it's for Vista but also works with Win 7/8).

Use the Browse and Attach This File buttons below the text input area while using the Full editor to upload and insert here.

Vista or Windows 7?
If Vista, do you have SP1 and SP2 installed + all updates?
If Windows 7, do you have SP1 + all updates installed?

Try starting IE11 without add-ons? Easiest way is to click the Start Orb, type iexplore -extoff and press Enter.

Hi

My Lap-top is running Windows 7 with all the updates loaded including SP1. I have disabled all add-ons and on the initial load-up of IE 11 this morning after ADD-ONS were disabled took 90 seconds, subsequent pages were very quick.

Laptop is now 40 months old but didn't have this problem when initially purchased

hi, please see attached, I have been able to solve partially the problem, I tried a clean boot and by disabling the adobe reader updater it has brought down the initial loads up time of the first page to around 25 secs. This is still longer than my PC. Would it be because of the 1GB ram which is on the laptop, PC has 4GB

Thanks for your helpCapture.PNG
