I also asked;

What type of external display are you connecting to including the type of display port it has, VGA port, DVI port or HDMI port.

Can you ask a family member or a friend if you can try hooking the notebook up to their screen, this to rule out an issue with the external screen that you are trying, types of possible issue include a damaged video cable and an incompatible external screen including the type of port that you are connecting the notebook to on the external screen.
