Hi!
I have recently noticed pop-ups from ar.voicefive.com being blocked while browsing in google chrome (Version 32.0.1700.77). These pop-ups have occurred on while I was on several different pages. Doing a quick google search I have learned this is some kind of malware, and while there are instructions for removal from a Windows machine, I am using a MacBook running Mac Os X 10.6.8. I would love some help getting rid of this malware but I cannot run OTL on my MacBook, will somebody please tell how I should proceed? Thank you very much!!

All of our tools are designed for Windows and so there is not a lot we can do. I can try to help you out, but I can't make any promises...but I do use OS X as my primary OS.

Do these pop-ups occur in Safari, too? Do you have an AV installed?

Thanks very much for your response, I appreciate you trying to help. To answer your questions: I haven't used safari yet as I just got this macbook secondhand a few month ago, but I will try it out for a while and let you know if you pop-ups still occur. Also, no, I do not have an AV installed on here as I was under the impression that macs didn't often get viruses. But I will reply back in a couple days to answer your safari question.

It is possibly a bad extension in Chrome. If you could list for me the extensions in chrome:


Manage all your extensions on the Extensions page
Follow these steps to open the Extensions page:

• Click the Chrome menu on the browser toolbar.
• Select Tools.
• Select Extensions.

OK, I just looked and the only extension there is Google Docs 0.5
I tried using Safari for a while and did not notice the pop-ups, by the way. Do you know anything about the nature of this particular malware (ar.voicefive) on PCs? i'm really just concerned about the security of my machine.

I believe it is just adware, but I can't be sure without having a log to analyze.

Let's try this.

First, let's try reinstalling Chrome. Drag Chrome to the trash and also any chrome folder that may be present in the Applications directory. Then redownload it and see if you still get pop-ups.

If so, close all open programs except chrome, then open the Activity Monitor (you can find it by searching in spotlight). Then sort the processes by name and select Edit -> Select All, then Edit -> Copy. Open a text document and paste the contents in it. Then attach the file to your next reply.

I am so sorry it has taken me so long to reply back to you. There is good news- I tried reinstalling chrome like you suggested and the pop-ups seem to have stopped for now! It has been a good week or so since I reinstalled so I am mostly confident the issue has been resolved. Should i still post my running processes anyway? Thanks so much again.
