Information I was reading about moving System Restore was wrong, you can only move the PageFile.

RECYCLE BIN- Can it remain on SDD? Wasn't sure if the repeated reads/writes would give unnecessary wear?

The recycle bin is not actually a "Place containing The Files" that can be moved. It is a record of files that have been deleted on that drive. The record of the deleted file prevents windows from overwriting it. If you delete a record or delete the Recycle bin, (no records kept) the file/s can be overwritten at any time and as there is no record,they are not easily recoverable.
So the writes are very minimal.

Have a read through the help files for using windows Backup and imaging your drive and decide how you want to set it up.
The first thing you should do is create recovery media

Sorry for the silence and thanks so much for all your help. Definitely excited about my set-up! I have 2 issues cropping up that I was hoping you could help me with. If I should start a new post in the OS forums, I would be happy to do that!

Windows 7
1. My start menu does not have all my programs. Even when I click "all programs." They also will not come up in the windows Start menu search bar.
2. Trying to watch videos taken of my daughter saved to the HDD results in the system completely freezing. This happens within the Sony "PlayMemories" program, as well as opening the video through windows explorer/windows media player. The videos will start just fine but when I try to exit, or during the video everything freezes. I cannot even ctrl/alt/del

Gday.
This does sound like software and not hardware. We will try a few steps first and if not successful, you would be better off with a new topic.
Look in your HDD, Programs folder, if a missing program from you SSD programs list is seen, means that a link is missing or corrupt.
Are the missing programs in Add and Remove Programs?
Did the problems start after you created a Drive Image?
Do all videos cause a freeze? or just ones from your Daughters folder?

Ok.. Regarding missing programs on start menu.

1. ALL show up on the add and remove programs screen
2. I have not yet created a drive image (that I know of?) so no, these programs were never on the menu. There seems to be no order- it's not as if at one certain point all programs installed past that were not included in the start menu
3. I have located the physical location of programs not showing up on the start menu. 2 are in the "programs" folder on drive C, 2 are in the "programs (x86)" folder on drive C, and 2 are in the "programs" folder on drive D.
4. Is there an option when installing that would affect this? For several programs I chose NOT to include a start menu shortcut. I thought that this referred to the initial screen when clicking the start button, not the "all programs" list? Did I assume incorrectly? Is there a way to fix that?

Regarding the videos...
1. I don't really have any videos on the computer other than my daughter
2. I tried some different scenarios. The videos tend to crash at random in all 4 of these situations: A) Watching through PlayMemories, stored on HDD. B) Watching through PlayMemories, stored on SSD. C) Watching through windows media player, stored on HDD. D) Watching through windows media player, stored on SSD.
3. Somewhere along the way I had Windows check to see if the codecs were ok and it said that they were.
4. These are AVCHD file format

Regarding video card...
1. I cleaned it out when moving all the computer parts- majorly dusty. Easily running at 40 Celsius with practically no fan right now. yay!
2. If I wanted to improve my video card situation, should I cheaply buy a used EAH3870 like mine and put them in crossfire configuration? ...or would I be better off choosing a brand new budget card?

You would have to manually take a drive image with Microsoft backup. Had there been an image saved, first option would have been to use the image, thus going back to a pre problem system state.

The 2 programs in "programs (x86)" are 32 bit, older programs, possible from a disc or you saved. There is no problem running 32 bit applications on a 64 bit system.
If you did not click the tick to create a start menu short cut or group, it will not be listed in the menu.
The option may still be available in the program preference. Try right click, send to, an option may be there or, in windows explorer, drag the program to the start menu, release button, see if a "create shot cut here" appears.

I ran the Windows FixIt and it disabled Xvid codec. We'll see what happens!

Regarding Start Menu- the only option I see if "pin to start menu" which I don't want. I just want it to be available in the "All Programs" area. I may re-install and see if there is an option that I may have overlooked

Can you play other video formats without problems?
Are the problems on the original drivers or updated ones?
I think only worth risking $30/40 on a second hand card, also crossfire often has issues with tearing and stutter.

Good evening!

 

I am so sorry to just abandon this forum.  Things got really busy for me and again, I'm sorry for just leaving.  I still am having massive problems with my videos being played on the computer.  The files will freeze the computer if I try to pause, rewind, or skip ahead.  The only way I can USUALLY make it work is by letting the video completely finish and giving it a second at the end to collect itself.

 

My PC is newly upgraded, as you can see from this post:

Intel Core i5-4670K

Gigabyte GA-Z87X-D3H  

G. Skill Ripjaw Series 8 GB (2 X 4GB)

Samsung 840 EVO 120 GB SSD (for OS)

 

I am running Windows 7.  The video files are AVCHD Video (.MTS) from my Sony Camcorder.  The files react similarly regardless of what program is used to play them.

 

Any troubleshooting ideas would really be appreciated.  Again, so sorry for bailing on this thread prematurely

Is you monitor res 1920x1080?

Have you tried playback from a HDD not the SSD?
