Acer laptop has black screen with light colored lines and beeps..HELP

My Acer laptop turns on shows the Acer logo and goes to a black screen with light lines running through also beeps, can someone help me solve this, I am not a computer person however my novel I have been working on is on the computer and no I did not back it up...shame on my [bleep] self! Help!11

ok now I have a blank screen when turned on with 4 sets of 4 faint beeps......

Four beeps usually means a system timer failure which usually means you need to replace your CMOS battery. You can try to reset the CMOS by moving the jumper and then replacing it where it was. This could also possibly represent a RAM issue.
