Sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday. I saw your message, but didn't find anything worth passing on regarding the Avast. I'll ping Essesboy and see what he has to say.ok, I did that and shut down, tooka while to start back up, said it was config updates and then cleaning? never saw that before
Given it's been a day, how the machine doing?

There is a possibility that this may be related to the hard drive, so initially we will run a chkdsk
Go Start > Computer
Right click C drive and select Properties
Select Tools click Error Checking
Select Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.
You will then be asked to schedule it for the next boot
Ok that and reboot
Allow the disc check to complete and let me know if it found any errors

I was able to do the second choice, scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, the end result was all is good
third time after the above try, it worked. no problems were found

Download Speedfan and install it. Once it's installed, run the program and post here the information it shows. The information I want you to post is the stuff that is circled in the example picture I have attached.
If you are running on a vista/7 machine, please go to where you installed the program and run the program as administrator.
(this is a screenshot from a vista machine)
