I just wanted to share that it didn't reboot while sitting overnight

OK.

Also I have additional sticks of ram if we need to try that.

Good to know, if the need we can swap them over rather than resorting to a specific memory load type test etc. :)

My son watched some train videos for about 20-30 min and it rebooted so above is the Speccy log and below is the other zipped file.

Hi. :)

The below is denoted in the Speccy log:-

S.M.A.R.T Status Bad

This is usually a indication a Hard-Drive is about to fail and needs replacing and would certainly explain the sometimes random shut-downs. :(

Not sure why the prior Hard-Drive check did not reveal this but we did not exactly perform a prolonged load type test. So I advise you backup everything and replace the Hard-Drive, though this is pretty much moot as support for XP itself is being withdrawn next month as I mentioned in a prior reply.

Anyway I'm afraid not a lot else I can advise at this point as primarily my support is Anti-Malware based. By all means feel free to seek a second opinion if you so wish from the excellent IT Tech Staff we have here in Geeks to Go in this part of the forum:-

Hardware, Components and Peripherals

And include a link to this topic if you want too:-

http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/topic/337278-computer-keeps-rebooting-itself/
As it stands the problem I mentioned is the most likely the source as it appears your machine is both malware free and the actual Operating System itself is now stable. Lets clean up all the tools used so far as follows...

Clean-Up with DelFix:

Please download DelFix to your desktop

  • Double-click on delfix.exe to launch the application.
  • Referring to the image below, select all available options(UAC will be greyed out since you have a XP machine):
Posted Image

  • Then click on Run.
  • Once it has finished processing, a notepad file named DelFix.txt will open. Post the contents in your next reply for my review.
  • The log can also be located at the root of the system drive, C:\DelFix.txt.
  • After you have posted the aforementioned DelFix.txt, delete it and empty the Recycle Bin.

Well, thank you sooo much for your help. I called my local computer guy and he's out of town until tomorrow but should be able to give me a call soon. Now to figure out how to back everything and whether to fix/update this one or buy a new one.

Would you help me delete all the other unnecessary programs we have installed over the last 8 pages of conversation? lol. Thanks!

Hi. :)

Well, thank you sooo much for your help.

You're most welcome!

Now to figure out how to back everything and whether to fix/update this one or buy a new one.

If you plan to stick with XP since you have the Professional version, XP Backup should be present:-

How to use the Backup utility <-- Down to How to back up files and folders

For files and documents etc you could use a form of removable storage media for example. Or use:-

Windows Easy Transfer for Windows XP

Or consider third party backup software:-

Cobian Backup

DriveImage XML

Would you help me delete all the other unnecessary programs we have installed over the last 8 pages of conversation?

DelFix removed the vast majority, anything else leftover feel free to delete and or uninstall via Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel etc.
