Keyboard Problem

I have just set up a New Acer Travelmate 4100. However when I press the @ symbol I get a " instead. Is this set up as the wrong keyboard. It suggested on setup I select US for a standard keyboard, but should I have selected UK?? Please help as this is really confusing me.
