Lost Files not in recycle bin Windows 8

Was tranfering files from Thumb drives from files that where on old xp computer and it said was dupulicate file I choose third opion to keep files already on disk. Both files went poof and not into recycle bin either. How do I recover theses files. The files included such stuff as pictures word and excell doceuments e books cross stitch patterns and on line magazines.

Aren't they still on the thumb drive or did you move them instead of copy?

Ah, sorry to hear that.

You can try Recuva to see if it finds the files on the thumb drive.

When you delete a file from an external device, like a flash drive, they are never saved in the Recycle bin. There would have to be a Recycle bin opn the external device itself for this to happen and Windows doesn't create them there as far as I know.

 

jackmcalister, your post has a link to instruction for fixing a corrupted Recycle bin but it really doesn't apply here. They are good instructions though .
