Hey Montery,
No worries there, the Windows Installer Service look good. We will now try to fix the issue with Windows Repair all in One. A great tool ;)

===== > Step 1: Windows Repair All In One < =====

  • Please download Windows Repair from here
  • Right click on the Installer and select Run as Administrator - then install the program
  • Right click on the Windows Repair All-in-one icon and select Run as Administrator
  • You will see a screen like that below:

Posted Image

  • Please move to the tab called Step3: Optional. The picture below shows how the screen should look like:

Posted Image

  • Please click on Do It and wait until it is finished.
  • Please move to the tab Step 4 and under Registry Backup please click BackUp - this will do a Registry BackUp of your computer. Please let it also create a System Restore point by clicking on the Create Button under the System Restore Section
  • Then move to the tab Start Repairs - you will see a screen like below:

Posted Image

  • Please click on Start - this will open a new screen.
  • Select the following items and tick restart system when finished. (Check the same items like in the picture below)

  • Then click Start and the scan/fix will begin
  • The PC will reboot - if not please reboot it manually

Did that solved our problem? :)

Hmm, that does look like a great tool, but same problem... MSE won't install. It shows up as a optional update, as well, but it still refuses to install and gives me an error code: 0x80070643.

No :) Don't worry, we fixed so much and I won't give up on your case (I never give up! ;)). I have many guns for that problem. And we tried some of them. The next fix needs approval from my teacher. You can expect answer from me in some hours.

Ah, ok...well, the previous fix seems to have done something to my printer. Control Panel says that my Epson Stylus NX620 is unable to print because it's turned off. It's not! :)

Of course, it is connected via a Network (not USB) connection, so we may have buggered up something.

It was working fine before we ran the Windows Repair procedure.

{edit} No worries, just fixed it myself! I deleted the printer and then let Windows figure it out.

Hey Montery :)

Please follow the steps here to do a Repair Install. If not don't worry, as I said before we have many guns to fix that. :)

Thanks!

Thanks Machiavelli.

I'm downloading the SP1 ISO because my original install disks are too old (!!).

I'll get back to you when I've completed the process. It may take me a extra day before I'm able to respond. I'll keep you informed though!

Thanks!

Hiya Machiavelli!

Hope your weekend is going well. :)

I followed the instructions provided, and was successful in 'upgrading' Windows 7.

However, it appears by default that the system runs Windows Defender, rather than MSE. I'm still unsuccessful in installing MSE.

Any other options? I am willing to switch over to a different antivirus product; I'm not married to MSE afterall! :)

Hey Montery :)

Please disable (click on the link so you know how to do it) Defender for now and try to install MSE. Did that work? Also, can you give me a screenshot of the error message? (Or what it exactly says?)

Thanks and well done so far. Don't worry, we will fix that issue.

Hey Machiavelli,

I've turned off defender, uninstalled MBAM, and tried to install MSE. The error screen is attached.

Thanks so much for all your help so far. :) Next time I'm in Germany I'll have to buy you a beer!
