Thanks for reply again.

I reinstalled Vista. As i know this laptop worked for a long time with vista until it crashed with bsod.
It installed perfectly but once again today,it fails.
So i place vista cd and try to repair but screen reads and then goes black with no sign of any thing happening.

What i did try before this was taking the HD from my dell inspiron laptop which is in prestine order to see what would happen.
It work with no issues.

So can i take it that it must be another hd problem.

PS - I always make sure the boot order is correct in bios.

ok latest update.

i have tried 3 other hd's that are working perfectly,in the toshiba laptop with no luck what so ever.
i am beginning to think this is more than just a hd problem.

Could it be a fault with the motherboard.

Thanks for the update ftfk00

i have tried 3 other hd's that are working perfectly,in the toshiba laptop with no luck what so ever.

What happened exactly as in did the computer boot into Windows and then crash or did the notebook not boot up at all.

Could it be a fault with the motherboard.

Possibly, we will be better informed once you have let us know the answer to the above.

You are welcome btw :)

What was happening with the toshiba hd.i installed windows 7 installed drivers etc.
it worked great then when i restarted i got options
1.start windows normally
2.start up repair.

What ever option i picked the pc would just restart go to these options and restart all over again.

When i placed a different hd in the toshiba i could not even get to recovery options.

So i am really thinking it is more than a hd problem.

Sorry to say this but I have to agree and a possible cause is the electrical contacts on the MB, if you do not use the notebook on your travels you can get by using a USB enclosure and booting the HDD from that.

Thanks for the reply.

What may i ask would be the cause of this happening? (Electrical contacts).

also booting from an enclosure. That would mean i would install OS to hd enclosure and use it with a different pc.
Am i right in thinking this.

Hard to say for sure what has caused this, possibly a design or manufacturing fault, it is not a common type of failure but it does happen.

From your reply #13

what i have done now is placed the toshiba hard drive into an external enclosure and plugged it into another laptop.

Use the same device connected to the Toshiba notebook, you would need to change the boot sequence in the BIOS so that it boots from a USB device first, you will of course need a working OS on the HDD as well.

Let us know if you are able to boot from the HDD enclosure when it is attached to the Toshiba and with the same new HDD fitted.
