After I sent the last post, I noticed on my startup screen (very quickly) it said to hit ESC for some other options. So I did that and it took me to an area where I could choose system recovery. Nothing said Destructive Recovery, but I chose the most severe option I could which was Restore to Factory Defaults (Factory Image Restore). It is in that process right now. It said it would destroy all of my files, and re-install all the factory software. Do you think this will be enough?

I have been working on setting up the computer since the system restore. So far I have not noticed anything "weird" going on at all. However I will keep looking for things. I have been on the internet some, but maybe it was not enough to be sure. I have made sure that Windows Defender & Firewall are updated & working. Also, I have downloaded the free version of Malwarebytes and it is currently scanning the system. Is there anything else that I should check or do?

I forgot to say that I am also working on the Windows updates. It says there are 132 updates needed. Hopefully there will not be any issues downloading them all and getting them working.

Thanks for the link. That is exactly what I did in the System Recovery. All the Windows updates have been downloaded and installed. All scans look good. Windows Defender, Fire Wall, & Malwarebytes are in place. Should I do anything else?

Here are some suggestions.
- Always keep your JAVA updated. Older versions will make your computer vulnerable.
- Windows Updates - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.
- ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) allows you to keep a complete backup of your registry and restore it when needed. The standard registry backup options that come with Windows back up most of the registry but not all of it. ERUNT however creates a complete backup set, including the Security hive and user related sections. ERUNT is easy to use and since it creates a full backup, there are no options or choices other than to select the location of the backup files. The backup set includes a small executable that will launch the registry restore if needed.
Best wishes!
