I have a Toshiba 1TB internal 3.5 inch Sata2 HD previously used with my DVR/CCTV system, which did not give any playback and resulted in my returning the DVR. I have installed it into a external enclosure, which has a cooling fan and an individual power source. Next I connected it to my Win7 Laptop via a USB port. The Driver software has been updated and the Device manager shows 'Initio Default Controller' which I have created a shortcut on the Desktop. I have tried opening the HD to view my previous recordings of the CCTV but without any thing happening. I would also like to use it to download my photos from a memory card but cannot find any means of doing so.
I would appreciate an easy solution if possible.
Looking forward to some replies. Thanks Divad.

The first thing you need to determine is what type of filesystem it has on it. Some DVRs use Linux, which is a problem accessing from windoze. You can download the Knoppix LiveCD and take a look to see if you can see the files. If you use fdisk on Windoze, you might be able to see the filesystem type.

To Kemasa, thanks for your info. The DVR did have a Linux system. I have contacted Knoppix site which offers various downloads. Should I download it direct to my external HD or other. If to the Ex HD will I be able to open the files on it and use it for photo's etc via my Win7. Note I will possible do this on my XP pc which I will be upgrading to a Linux system shortly.
Regards.

There seems to be some drivers for windoze which allow you to access an ext2/3 Linux filesystem. I am not sure of how well it works though.

From a web search:
