Hi, thanks so much to anyone who takes the time to read this. I'd really appreciate any help you can give me.

I'm not sure what the problem is. It's really odd. A few weeks ago I lost my internet connection for a couple days and was told it had something to do with a cable or something on my ISP's end. Ever since then a certain friend of mine started getting disconnected all the time. Every 2-10 minutes, he said. I didn't think it could be related except he mostly only gets disconnected when he talks to me. (Via Yahoo! or MSN messengers.) We used to always use Y!M, but now he gets disconnected if he just says one thing to me with it. We used to send each other files with MSN just fine, but now he can't send me files and gets disconnected if I try to send one to him. The really strange thing is he isn't having these problems with anyone else, only me. He reformated his computer and right afterwards it wasn't disconnecting him, but once he talked to me again for the first time since he did the format, it started disconnecting him again. I also reinstalled my instant messengers and did all sorts of scans trying to figure out if the problem is on my end. Well, just this week, I started getting disconnected all the time, too. Every 5-15 minutes, if not more. It's so annoying. I found out my friend and I both use Verizon DSL and have Westell modems, so I thought that might be related somehow, but yesterday I called tech support at Verizon and he didn't seem to acknowledge any of this stuff when I told him. He said that it's not the DSL because when I get disconnected, it reconnects right away automatically. He had me check how many processes I had running and I have 43-46 at any given time. He said that would be a problem and that it's probably spyware. Since it's not related to the DSL I guess he couldn't help me more than that. I run Microsoft AntiSpyware everyday and Ad-Aware regularly, so I was suprised that the problem would be spyware. However, I did all the things in this topic: http://www.geekstogo..._Log-t2852.html - and I did find a few things that my usual programs didn't detect.

SpyBot and the Ewido Security Suite found a few things. Panda ActiveScan would not work for me, but I did do the Housecall one. TDS-3 would not work for me. I downloaded it several times, but when I tried to use it it said thank you for evaluating it or something like that. I think it's because I had it before, so it wont let me try it again without buying it. Since it didn't work, I looked for a different anti-trojan program and installed a-squared Free. It found about eight things and then I checked again with this related online trojan scan and they were gone. After I did all the things before step five, I stopped to see if the problem had been taken care of, but it hasn't. I'm still getting disconnected. I also have 45 processes running currently. I don't really know what most of them are. Oh, my CPU usage is only about 2-30%, if that matters.

Ok, sorry for the long post, but I just wanted to give all the background info and what I've tried so far. Here is my HijackThis log:

Thanks so much for reading this and any help you can give me. It's sooo frustrating! :tazz:

EDIT: I can't believe this! I've been working so hard to fix my computer and instead it's getting worse!!! It wont allow me to use the left mouse button anymore. Just all of a sudden; I wasn't even doing anything out of the ordinary. I'm told it is probably because of malware - http://www.geekstogo...ick-t33967.html (<---Details.) I can't even use that computer anymore; I'm using another one at the moment. I can only navigate a little and not enough to start any scans. Microsoft AntSpyware started on its own at its scheduled time, but it didn't find anything. What in the world is doing this?! Please, please someone help me. I'm trying to be patient. Will anyone actually still see this topic all the way on page 15?! Have all 80 of the people who have read it really not been able to help me? I really hope someone who can help me finds this topic. I don't know what to do. I know I sound desperate and it's because I AM! Maybe there could be a topic pinned to the top that lists all the posts still waiting for help since they move off the first few pages so quickly. Just an idea. Thanks for reading this. I know you're all busy here and doing this on your own time and I appreciate it. I just hope someone still sees this topic. ;)
UPDATE: I managed to run SpyBot and it didn't find anything. I've figured out how to navigate a little more, so I'm on the computer I'm having the problems with right now. I can't run Ewido or a2, though, because they don't let me right-click or tab.
UPDATE: Now the stupid mouse has stopped working altogether and it says my anti-virus is turned off, which I didn't do, and I can't get it to turn back on. Please help me.
UPDATE: Ok, now it's working again. Only the right mouse button like before, but it's better than nothing. It's just doing these things on its own.

Hi Lili

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items:
O2 - BHO: Neopets - {AE8EF38E-64E0-472c-B9B4-E29643D152C1} - C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\VsiBar.dll

O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0013-0001-0000-ABCDEFFEDCBA} -

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

If you were unable to find any of the files then please follow these additional instructions:
Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop.
Run killbox and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot. For each of the files you could not delete, paste them one at a time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.
The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in whereupon you should answer Yes.
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\VsiBar.dll
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\VsiFnc.dll

Let the system reboot.

If you can do the online scans just leave it and post a new HJT.log
Please run the following free, online virus scans.
http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm
http://housecall.tre.../start_corp.asp
Please post the logs From Panda virus scan and HJT.logWe will need them to remove previous infections that have left files on your system.

Hi, thank you sooo much for answering. I'm able to get to folder options, but I can't get to the view tab without being able to use the left mouse button. I think I already have it set to show hidden files but not protected operating system files. Should I just go ahead with the rest of the instructions anyway? Thank you!!!

I did the HijackThis scan in Safe Mode, but it wont let me check any boxes. I can highlight them using my arrow keys and then tab to the scan, fix, info, etc. keys, but I can't put an X in the boxes you told me to and fix them. :tazz:

Thanks so much for all your help. I don't know if you noticed in my first post I said that Panda ActiveScan would not work for me when I tried to use it before I posted anything, well, it still wont work. I get to the part where it says, "Click on the item to scan," but when I click on one, it doesn't do anything. It was doing this the other day when my mouse was working fine, too. I did send them an email about it the other day. I'm doing the Housecall scan now. I did it the other day, too. At first I wasn't able to start it because it also has you select what you want to scan by checking boxes like on the HijackThis thing, but I was clicking around on it and all of a sudden my mouse worked right for a few seconds and let me select the box and press scan with the left mouse button, but then it stopped working again.

Ok, Housecall did not find anything. :tazz:

EDIT: Ok, this is a little embarrassing. I tried a different mouse and it worked fine, so I cleaned this one and it's working now. (It didn't look dirty.) ;)

I'm going to do the HijackThis scan in Safe Mode now and see if it will fix my original problems. Sorry about all the extra trouble because of the mouse. I guess it was just a coincidence that it started having trouble at the same time as when I'm having trouble with malware. :tazz:

UPDATE: Ok, I did the HijackThis scan in Safe Mode and had it fix those eight things you told me to. Then I did another scan (in regular mode) and here is my new log:

There's so much stuff there that I don't even use or didn't think I had. ;)

UPDATE: There's so much stuff on my computer that I don't even know about; I've decided I'd like to reformat it. I've been thinking about doing that for a long time anyway. Could anyone direct me to a good guide for how to go about it? Also, is there anyway I can compress my audio and video files or something like that so that I can save more of them onto one disk? Thanks so much for your help. I really appreciate it.

Oh, also, what's the difference between doing a reformat and a restore and which one is better? I have a restore disk that came with my pc. I want to do the one where it puts my computer back to the way it was when I first got it.

Hi Lili

I would continue with what we are doing we can clean up your system at the same time.

Have a look in Windows Add Remove Program file's:

Then uninstall the programs you no longer run, if you are unsure tell me what the program is.

We can clean out all the junk without the need to reformat or a system restore.

Please download, install and run this disk cleanup utility called Cleanup version 4.0!: http://downloads.ste...p/CleanUp40.exe
It will get rid of any malware which may be hiding in your temp folders ( a common hiding place). You will also regain a massive amount of disk space. Here is a tutorial which describes its usage: http://www.bleepingc...tutorial93.html
Check the custom settings to your liking under options, but be sure to delete temporary files and temporary internet files for all user profiles. Also, cleanout the prefetch folder and the recycle bin. When the scan has finnished click the close button
When prompted the system will log off to let it clean out the remaining files. when the log screen shows log back on and continue the fix.

Please run the following free, online virus scans.
http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm
http://housecall.tre.../start_corp.asp
Please post the logs From Panda, Ewido and HJT.logWe will need them to remove previous infections that have left files on your system.

Ok, that sounds good. Thank you.

I regularly uninstall programs I no longer use and I uninstalled a few yesterday, but there's a problem I have sometimes. I think it's when some of the files get deleted without uninstalling the whole program and then when I go to uninstall it, there's an error and it wont let me. For example, I think when I deleted those things you told me to with HijackThis, I deleted some files for the Neopets toolbar, and then I wanted to uninstall it completely, but it wont let me. How do I get it off the Add or Remove Programs list? I tried reinstalling it again and then uninstalling it, but they have a different version now, so it didn't work. I have the same problem with an older version of Firefox that's still on my Add or Remove Programs list, but some of the files are missing so it wont let me uninstall it even though I have a newer version installed.

I already installed CleanUp when I was following this topic: http://www.geekstogo..._Log-t2852.html I ran it again now.

Like I said twice before, I am not able to do the Panda scan.
I did the Housecall one.

Ewido didn't find anything, but I also ran it earlier yesterday, and that time it did, so I will post both logs.

I followed the instructions at the link you gave me an installed Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal. I ran it twice because when I start up in safe mode it gives me two options to sign on as, Administrator and my name. I only have one account, it's my name, but I thought it was also the administrator account. I'm the only one who uses this computer. Well, I ran the scan on the administrator account, but it didn't find anything, so I ran it on the other one, too. It didn't find anything there either and that time it only took seven minutes.

(For some reason my AVG Anti-Virus isn't able to update anymore. Does this have something to do with having installed the Kaspersky one?)

What is an mwav.log?
I was going to post the logs from the Kaspersky AV, in case that's what you wanted, but it's really long.

Hi Lili

What is an mwav.log?
I was going to post the logs from the Kaspersky AV, in case that's what you wanted, but it's really long.

Yes please post that log and yes it is big will take me seven years two days and 14 hours to get through is :tazz:

Aww, lol, thanks for all your time.

I did the scan twice, but I'll post the log from the first time, which took about 75 minutes. The second time it only took seven.

This is at least the fifth time I've tried to post it now. When I paste it into here it freezes every time. I tried to attach it and it didn't work, but I'm trying one more time.
