Hello

My brother is having a problem with his computer which runs on xp. Every time he tries to get online using internet explorer it crashes. He can't get online at all to download any anti virus things or firewalls.
Could it be a virus and whats the best way to get rid of it?
Whats a good firewall to use?

Thanks

Hi lahamilton10, welcome to GTG! <_<

If he dosen't have any antivirus programs, I'd start there. We recommend the free version of AVG: http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php

You can download it on another computer and install on his. Run a full sytem scan, and fix any problems found.

Next, let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.

Hijack This can also be downloaded from another computer if needed, and will even fit on a floppy.
