Welcome to GTG.

Please print out the instructions here (or save it in Notepad) so that you can follow along more easily.

Download Ewido Security Suite at http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ and install it. Update to the newest definitions. If you have trouble updating, you may do it manually at http://www.ewido.net...wnload/updates/ Do NOT the Ewido scan yet.

Please download Nailfix at http://www.noidea.us...050515010747824 Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Right click on this link http://www.greyknigh...lO15Domains.inf and choose Save As. Save it to your desktop. Right click on that file and choose Install. It will run immediately (you won't be able to see anything happen). You may delete it afterwards.

Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Next run a full scan in Ewido. Save the log from the Ewido scan so that you can post it later.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [awx] C:\WINDOWS\System32\awx.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [System Services] svcsenes32a.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [MSN PLUS XP] wspad.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [System Services] svcsenes32a.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [System Services] svcsenes32a.exe
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.neededware.com
O16 - DPF: NDWCab - http://www.neededware.com/ndw2.cab

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Delete these if found:

C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\awx.exe
wspad.exe
svcsenes32a.exe

Restart your computer.

Download FindIt's.zip http://forums.net-in...=post&id=142443 to your desktop.

1. Unzip/extract the files inside to a folder on your desktop.
2. Open the folder. Double click on FindIt's.bat and wait for Notepad to open a text file. It will take a while so please be patient... Note: If you are having problems using FindIt's.bat (16 bit error), copy autoexec.nt from the C:\WINDOWS\repair folder to C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder. Now try running FindIt's.bat.
3. Then post the results here along with the new HijackThis log. Also post the Ewido scan results here.

I want you to upload this file (c:\windows\system32\eopqsk.exe) to this site and submit it. Post back the report it gave you.

Please run this online virus scan:
ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro...call_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. You may use Panda ActiveScan also at http://www.pandasoft...ucts/activescan. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan.

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ (Alternate Link if main link don't work - http://www.greyknigh...spy/CleanUp.exe ) and install it. Don't run it yet.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSN PLUS XP] wspad.exe

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\Documents and Settings\user\SSK3_B5 Verticlick 8.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\c.bat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dhpxqbm.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\usuftye.exe
C:\WINDOWS\vbokufu.exe
c:\windows\system32\mezlwc.exe
wspad.exe - search and delete this

For this file (c:\windows\system32\eopqsk.exe), right click on it and go to Properties. Was it created recently? If so, delete it. If not, tell me.

Run CleanUp! and click on CleanUp! button. Once it's done, you may click the Close button. When asked if you want to logoff, choose Yes.

Restart and run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

alright I ran CleanUp but now my taskbar is messed up, it doesn't look like the Windows XP taskbar but instead it looks like an old windows 95 taskbar. Please help me get my XP taskbar back.

:tazz: You're another user that encountered this problem. We can fix that up now:

OK, download the Luna theme at
http://users.pandora...patchy/luna.zip

Unzip it and MOVE the luna.msstyles which is present in that folder you unzipped to next folder: C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes\Luna
Don't move it to anywhere else than that folder!

When moved it there, rightclick on your desktop > properties ... and look if Windows XPstyle is now present again. Choose apply and OK.

If not, reboot first, and try again to select Windows XP style

Give me your new HijackThis log after you are all done.

Perfect. Just one more minor fix and you're set:

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:

Viewpoint

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\

No need for a new log.

Your log is clean.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer and uncheck the same box to enable System Restore.

Make sure to get the latest updates for Windows and Internet Explorer at http://v5.windowsupd...t.aspx?ln=en-us.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.

this is not aurora related but it's probably worse than aurora. My virus scanner keeps detecting a trojan horse
C:\Documents and Settings\user\msdirectx.sys\Trojan horse collected.5.L
if I delete it, it comes right back so do you know how to get rid of it?

Try this:

Download KillBox http://www.greyknigh...spy/KillBox.exe. Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. Copy the below files and go back to KillBox. Go to File->Paste from Clipboard and then hit the button with a red circle and white X. Confirm to delete and when asked if you want to reboot, say no:

C:\Documents and Settings\user\msdirectx.sys

Restart and see if it's still detected.

Does the Panda scan detect anything?

well, this is keeping me from using pandasoft and other online scanners. "Generic Host Process for Win32 has encountered a problem and needs to close".
here is the data for the error report...
error signatures- szAppName: szAppVer: 0.0.0.0 sz ModName: unknown,
szModVer: 0.0.0.0 offset: 00000000

the technical information-
C:\DOCUME~1\user\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERD.tmp.dir00\svchost.exe.mdmp

C:\DOCUME~1\user\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERD.tmp.dir00\appcompat.txt

this is very annoying so please :tazz:

Did you install any new hardware lately? Right click on My Computer->Properties->Hardware->Device Manager and see if you can find any suspicious looking entries (you will see something like exclamation/yellow marks if there is something wrong).

You mentioned having problems going online in the PM you sent me. So try this and see if that fixes the internet problem:

Download WinsockFix http://www.greyknigh...sockFix.sfx.exe and uncompress it. Then double-click on the uncompressed file to run it.

no hardware problems or so the Device Manager says and WinSock didn't fix my problem. Whenever I get the Generic Host Process message my computer doesn't recognize it's connected to the internet even though the icon in the taskbar is still active, I get the error message more frequently while downloading something such has when I tried to download Quicktime media player earlier today my download stalled and stayed at a certain percent before the error message popped up.

Try this:

*Please dowload: RegSeeker.
*Click on "Clean The Registry" in the left panel.
*Check all boxes (make sure the backup box in the lower left corner is selected!).
*After it runs, click "Select All" on the bottom, then right-click on any selected item in the window and select "Delete Selected Items".
*Click "Quit RegSeeker".

Now, open any of your installed programs, and make sure that everything opens ok. If so, reboot, then go back and run RegSeeker again, do the same thing again if anything is found. You may have to run RegSeeker 5 -6 times, but you want it showing none to very few items. *Make sure to reboot between each use of the program.

See if that gets rid of the Generic Host error. If not:

Download the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool and install it on a blank floppy disk. Restart your computer and insert the floppy. If necessary, change your bios to boot from the floppy drive first. Let it load from the floppy and run the memory test for about 15 minutes. If no errors show up, you may exit the program and take out the floppy.

If the test shows that it's all clear, then try out the patch here. Install it.
