I was just asked by a friend if I was okay. I said yea why? She said well you were up on your facebook at 3am. Nope sure wasnt. I make a point of shuttting down every nite and starting up in the morning. Is there any way my computer can come back on by itself in the nite and then turn off? She said you are always showing on facebook at that time. I have not made any changes that would cause that to happen. This is weird. Any ideas, not too technical thanks.

I presume when you state that its turning on by itself you mean from a "sleep state" ...  It could turn on by itself for different reasons -- do you have any schedule updates on?

 

 

Scheduled Updates: Windows operating systems have tasks scheduled to run automatically. Take a look at the ‘task scheduler’ on your computer.

• Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Scheduled Tasks.
• If yours is set to check for updates everyday at 3 AM, change that time to something less disruptive. Consider changing the frequency also, or alternatively turning the automatic updates off.

 

In addition, do you keep your Facebook account automatically logged in? By your computer? Smartphone? If they're logged in "always" this could be a reason why you're being shown as online.

Yea thought about tht so will log out on computer and phone tonite and see what happens. Desk top is old and doubt it does any updayed unless i do them manually. Thanks for yr response by the way. Will let you know

Hi there fellow members! I can almost bet it is your phone. Can't count the times that I saw my son on FB while he was supposed to be working and I would scold him with, "Aren't you supposed to be working and not on FB". His reply? Huh???? I was working and my phone was in my locker. He started turning the phone off when he was at work and it was in his locker an I never saw him on after that. We guessed that his phone keeps him logged on automatically unless it is turned off.

That makes sense so will turn phone off tonite and ask friend tomorrow if she saw me on.

You wouldn't need to turn the phone off, just make sure you're logged out of Facebook from all devices whenever you don't want to be shown as an active logged in user to Facebook.

Could someone else have your facebook password? some joker friend or relative? or some long forgotten access -- like from the computer from the previous workplace, where the browser was told to memorize password? Try changing your password and check if this 3am thing still goes on
