Hi , new member here, maybe I'm outa line here, but, since alot  of us run freeware, is possible

to upgrade from XP to Win.8 for free?

If by "free" you mean without paying a dime and getting Win8? If that is what you mean the answer is no, unfortunately you can not upgrade "legally" from XP to W8 without purchasing Windows 8. But if you had bought a copy of Win8 and wanted to upgrade to Windows 8 from XP then yes you could do that for free.You could though "try" Windows 8 by downloading a free evaluation copy from TechNet.  Windows 8.1 Enterprise Evaluation copy  this evaulation copy is good for 90 days, then you must register "buy a license" it through Microsoft. I hope this answered your question.. :D

Interesting article. Didn't happen with Update 1 though.

 

I don't see it happening. I can see a reduced price version, like the $40 Windows 8 intro that was originally offered. I bought two keys then, should have got more.

No, there is no free version of Windows 8 (or any other Windows OS).
