Hi All,

Need a help deciding the configuration of a small sever that we need to put up. We are a small team of 10-15 people and we are creating a server...so that we can share it's hard disk where we can centrally save and access the data simultaneously. We will be mapping the drive of server on the computers on lan.

I need help on following:

Processor: i3/i5

Ram: 6/8 GB

OS: Windows 2003/2008 server

Hard disk:  I am planning to have 1 TB as we don't save lot of date. (in two years we have also 8 gb of data)

Any help is appreciated!

i3 processor, you don't need much CPU for primarily file sharing

6GB RAM, unless you want to future proof. RAM is cheap, and you might decide you want to run some virtual machines in the future

Windows 2008, 2003 is soon to be end of life

Most servers have some form of RAID, at least RAID 1 to provide some protection against data loss should your drive die. You'll also need an additional backup plan.

Ditto on the processor recommendation, the real speed improvements will come from the HDD and most importantly, the network!
