I was on firefox surfing the net when my computer did a little freeze after a click, mouse still moved but nothing would happen, then my monitor would go black and display "no signal". I figured I would be able to make the computer sleep, maybe that might get it to work again, but nothing would happen after I hit the sleep button. I also have my computer set up to shut down when i hit the power button. That did nothing. I had to do a hard restart. Everything started up, no beeps. This happened a few times but only when I was using firefox. Quick google search and I found a solution that might work which is uncheck hardware acceleration. So I did, and again about 10-20 mins into using firefox, it would happen again. I had firefox open in the background as I was using excel, and it happened again. I restarted the comp and opened up a couple of programs, photoshop, vuze, excel, and a folder and left it with the monitor on while I went to work, when I came home, the computer was fine. I searched more solutions for this and I saw some ppl were having a problem with the newer firefox so I installed Opera, and in the settings i unchecked use hardware acceleration.  Figured that this would fix the problem. After about 20 mins using Opera it happened. Not sure what the problem is, Ive looked at the bios to see what my power supply was putting out/doing. Seems fine, 12v output, fans running fine. I removed the old graphic drivers via safe mode and a driver cleaner. Computer is about 8 months old. Asus P8Z77 v lk mobo, [email protected], 16GB Ram, NVIDIA Geforce GTS250 1GB, Win 7 64-bit. Using the comp now to post this. Hasn't and hoping it doesn't happen again since the driver clean. Did that about 30 mins ago. Any help would be great and appreciated.

After I posted the first time, I decided to surf the net to see if it would happen again, and it did. I did a hard restart and came back to this post to put that information up there and it happened again while I was typing. I thought it could be my wireless keyboard, since it was about 8 years old. Before all this, when I would come home I would sometimes see the outlook setup running, or the calculator.  Those are both shortcut buttons on my keyboard.  I know the batteries are fine, i change them once a month, not that the keyboard needs it. The computer was running and i couldn't get the keyboard to connect, it wouldn't type, nor would the num, scr, or caps locks lights come on or go off. Then my computer went into sleep mode by its self. I hit a button on my keyboard and it turned back on, but still could not type or anything. As you can see I am typing now from a brand new keyboard. I hope this fixes the problem, if it is what was causing it.

You have tried an alternative keyboard already but if you have or can borrow a wired PS/2 type keyboard for testing purposes it will help, this because if the computer works ok with the PS/2 type keyboard it may narrow the issue down to a USB related problem, possible wireless interference from another local wireless device, power problem or worse case scenario malware infection due to the fact that you were on the internet when the problem first became apparent, if it looks like it is the latter that is the cause I will provide the appropriate GTG malware redirection information for you.

 

Please provide the brand and model name or number of the PSU, the HDD and the amount of free storage space that is available on the HDD.
