Computer is an HP pavilion notebook zd7000. XP Pro. HP recovery does not seem to be an option on this notebook. I did have this pc in for repair once before as user loves to download music, etc.. and I do remember having to load format and load from the xp cd. Current problem is as follows:

On boot black screen

ntldr missing. ctrl+alt+del to reboot

Of our is just loops everytime you boot it.

I can boot from CD
The problem starts trying to get to the first screen of windows setup where I can select recovery console or install windows. It typically flashed a blue screen and shuts down the computer too fast to read the error message.

I can select Windows automated system recovery disk F2.
I can select F6 install raid drive and it lists none

I did get into recover console once.
While there I did a chkdsk /p
said it found one or more errors.
I replaced the ntldr from the cd. I changed to root c:\ then did a copy d:\i386\ntldr

The computer said 1 file copied sucessfully. Typed exit computer rebooted and message flashed quickly that ntldr failed and it reboots the computer only to go into same loop again.

I thought, okay I'll get back into cd and just reload windows because there is no data that is crucial to keep on computer and I can reload but it won't take me to that screen once again.

Is there any hope?

Any of these might work if I can just get back into recovery console!

is your bios set to boot from cd drive 1st?

It wasn't but I changed it and Yes, it is set to boot to cd first. I do not have a problem getting message to hit space to boot to cd and I don't have a problem bringing up the windows setup...for a few seconds anyhow...

plz elaberate what is your problem once you get into windows installer?

This is the problem: I can boot from CD & I hit the space to boot to cd and system goes through configuration routine finding various components and directly after the starting windows & before the 1st screen comes up letting me select whether to go into recovery console or reinstall windows a blue screen of death (xp variation of it) pops up so quickly it is impossible to read and computer reboots itself only to repeat this. If I just turn on computer and don't boot from cd I am now getting a new error message since I changed boot order to cd then hdd. Now it says invalid boot.ini c:\windows ntdetect failure

NEW INFO: I just tried another xp cd although there is nothing wrong with that one and just a fluke got back into recovery console. Give me some suggestions!
I'm going to do chkdsk /p and fixboot
Anything else I should do while in here? I'm afraid to exit!

other than that link i gave you ealeir i have no more suggestions but you could have a corupt cd and thats y it wont let u install windows
