Hi,

You will see at the end my ADWCleaner log.  The date of the troubles matches with this log. The first two troubles (see below) appeared between 24 and 26 feb.

1. Starting Vista troubles

I have a black screen and it can't start Vista Business after Bios finnished and before the 'Microsoft Corporation' bar at bottom is blinking, so that I need to manually shut down drastically with the power OFF button to reboot my laptop.

My laptop couldn't start properly as the 'Microsoft Corporation' green progress bar at bottom doesn't appear.

This occured only if I 'm working on my laptop during a few hours.

If I'm working for a few minutes and I shut down my laptop, I can start without any troubles.

2. Bios can't save settings

If I turn off my laptop and unplug from the wall outlet and I start again after a few hours, the Bios come back with the old settings with 'AHCI enable'.
If I reboot my laptop after a few minutes (unplugged or not unplugged from wall outlet), there is no problem, it can save my last settings, and my laptop can boot with no problems.

What I did :

I ran SFC and CHKDSK, a 'Repair my Computer' with the Bootable Vista Cd, Memtest, check my HDD with HDDRegenerator. Check malwares with HitmanPro, ProcessHacker and AdwCleaner.

3. Clock time is not more synchronized. It works for one hour then it stopped and go backwards to the previous hour -1h. Then if I manually synchronized, it will do the same. This is new troubles since two days ago.

I also contact the Helpdesk for Fujitsu and according to them, it could be a HDD, motherboard failures and/or cmos battery down.

Thanks in advance for your help !

Welcome.

I suspect that the cmos battery is dead. The batteries main function is to hold the cmos (bios) settings. Usually though when bios settings are reset to default, the computer/ laptop would still be bootable.

Since you haven't told us any info on the laptop, I can only guess that it is an older unit.

There is a remote chance that the main board is bad, but, lets consider the battery first.

My laptop is Amilo Pro V3505 that I bought on 2007 if I'm not wrong with the date of purchase.

When you said 'The batteries main function is to hold the cmos (bios) settings.", are you talking about the cmos battery or about the laptop battery ?

Do you think that my 'Starting Vista troubles' detailed on my first point are something to do with the cmos battery ?

Sorry, I thought 123Runner was working with you. I had just commented on your battery question.

Anyway, your question Bios can't save settings is definitely a CMOS battery problem. It needs to be replaced and as I mentioned, this is often a pain to do as it requires considerable dis-assembly to get at it. Laptops use diffeent batteries than Desktops and are often soldered onto the system board, though not always.

You mention 'AHCI enable' is on after the BIOS gets messed up. Do you normally have it on or off? Does changing it to another setting resolve the boot problem?

Ztrucker,

I was talking about the first point 'Starting Vista troubles' and not about the second (about bios saving settings) and third (about clock system issue) that both issues are related with the cmos battery.

Again, I'm asking you: Do you think that my 'Starting Vista troubles' detailed on my first point are something to do with the cmos battery ?

AHCI is enabled, yes. As explained on the second point, Bios can't save my new settings.

The only way I found is to enter into Bios and quit without saving any changes, then the laptop restart again (this time, I won't enter into the Bios), then it started normally.

Sorry, I have been away for a while.

The bios/ cmos battery is the 1st place I would start. I have spent the last 1.5 hours trying to find some documentation as to where the battery is, what type, and how to replace it. It is a big secret.

Disassembling a laptop to replace the battery is not for the faint of heart.

I have found what the battery looks like and the picture referances a cr2032. It shows it near the cpu socket. https://forum.ts.fuj...hp?f=93&t=44610

I have been unsuccessful in finding a service manual for dis assembly.

I found a You tube video, but it is a very fast video on the entire disassembly. Very little dialog.  www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxhkqAE2D9o

Looking at this picture the battery in under the black material.  http://www.ebay.com/...=item1e88b113eb

I don't know what your capabilities are, but this is something that I would not attempt!

I'd like to have an answer to my post : http://www.geekstogo...s/#entry2388803

I found a manual to do this, but it's  hard because I need to remove the motherboard from the case, but I don't have others choices.

What about the others issues please, 123runner ?

I do not believe replacing the CMOS battery will fix the boot problem, unless as I mentioned in my last post, AHCI is being set to the wrong value and doesn't stay changed after you save it then power off because the CMOS battery is dead. If that is not the case thern no, it's highly unlikely a new CMOS battery will fix the boot problem. Not impossible, just unlikely.

I do agree with 123Runner though. You should replace the CMOS battery then see what happens. If still problems we can work on them at that time.

Thanks Ztrucker for your reply.

I will let you know once I replace the battery.

I won't do it for now as I'm very busy at this moment and I need time to disassemble all parts of the laptop and reach the motherboard.
