I have been using a Maxtor one touch 4 on my old HP computer with XP and it was working just fine.  Yesterday the power was off and on several times, and now when I open the hard drive to do a back up it says"backup not available, make sure your hard drive has NTFS formatted partition".

I have changed nothing, and have no idea why this error is appearring now after using it for so long.  I am not sure whether to uninstall the Maxtor and plug it in again to reinstall it or not.

It says I have an updated version of the software, did not want to try downloading drivers without asking advice.  Also ran a driver test, said it was ok.  Puzzled as to why this is suddenly not working for me.

Thanks!

Sometimes memory card damaged, corrupted or virus attacked can cause such problem. No matter what cause of this case, your data lost definitely. The first thing you need to do is to use  a recovery tool to recover your data first. Because once the old data on your memory changed, there is no way to get it back. So please recover your data as soon as possible if the files on your memory card are important for you. 4Card Recovery is a free recovery tool and it is able to recover various files. You can have a try.

Here are the detailed steps of using 4 Card Recovery:

step one, download 4card recovery software and install it on your computer

Step two, run it and select the files that you want to recover

Step three, scan your files and wait for about 10 minutes

Step four, put your recovered files on other part

See, quite simple.

I went to that freeware site and when I tried to download, my computer says "forbidden".  I also tried to find out some info at the Seagate site, downloaded their seagate tools for windows, and ran that.  All it told me was I had a device failure, or something like that.  Then I downloaded a driver for the One touch 4 and unzipped it.  In that window, there are several folders now, bin, drivers, EULA, autorun, launch, and onetouch 4.dmg.  By clicking autorun, I get the Notepad opens with a blinking cursor.  I do not know how to proceed, or just give up this preceedure.  thanks
