I was thinking of attempting to build my own system.  However, I am no expert and wanted opinions on if I should do this or not because of cost factor.  I have added video cards, memory, hard drives, and sound cards before but never built a whole system.  I have also never worked with bios on a new system either (that kind of scares me). 

 

I am wondering how hard will this be, and what bugs I may face.  To avoid some bugs I picked some of the same brand hardware to install.  I would really appreciate it if I could get some honest opinion on the difficulty level of putting this machine together or if I am missing anything.   System will be for both business and gaming.

Can I ask what the main use of the computer will be, what you maximum budget is and in which country will you be purchasing the parts.

 

Please do not worry about anything BIOS related as most of it is taken care of automatically by the MBs software and we will help you with anything else + of course the build process itself.

Main use will be 50% business (graphics) and 50% gaming (COD Ghost, Shogun, etc).  Budget is 2K and parts are from US (newegg.com).  I thought about intel, but that takes my costs up much higher for an I7.  And thank you for any help you can offer.

The 850W PSU is way overkill and you are paying a lot of cash for power that will not be used, I would change the PSU for one that is more appropriate and use the cash saved to upgrade the video card to a GTX 770.

 

One item that I am not sure that you will need is the add on sound card, most MBs and especially high end ones like the sabretooth have very good onboard 7.1 channel audio chips and you would need to spend a silly amount on an add on sound card to better them, the Newegg reviews for the card are also less than convincing of the cards quality and reliability, see here

 

Consider omitting the add on sound card and using the cash saved to purchase an SSD for the operating system and swapping the 500GB for a 1TB 7200rpm 64-MB cache HDD.

I will look at configuring a Intel build.

What kind of "graphics" , photo/video?

What software will you be using, i.e. Adobe, Sony Vegas?

What camera/s will be used, brand/model/s?

Will you be using more than one display, brand/model/s?

Do you have a external backup?   Any spare drives?

Graphics is Adobe CS3 full edition and mainly photo (light video). 

Camera's aren't provided, I am given them via pulling from cloud to edit. 

I only use one monitor display, NEC 42 Class LED Edge-Lit Commercial-Grade w/ Integrated Tuner - 1920 x 1080, 16:9, 60Hz, 1200:1 Native, 9ms, HDMI, VGA, USB.

I liked the specs on the i7-4930K Ivy Bridge E 3.4 LGA but it's almost 600.

Thanks for the update. 

Some sites do special deals on "pick up only" if you provide your ZIP code? it could save you heaps.

Using the i7-4930K goes over your budget, have to cut down on other parts and the system ends up a bit unbalanced, also looked at using the i7 4820K, (giving an upgrade path) but it just does not appear to do the Job better than the i7 4770K, Haswell.

Guys thanks for all the help.  I have decided on everything except one question.  Would you go with a single GTX 770 4GB or Dual GTX 750 2 GB?

The GTX 750 does not support Sli, see specs here,  you have also said that you will only be using the one screen so a single good quality add on video card is adequate, it will also require lower power output from the PSU and so generate less heat inside the case, iammykyl is better placed to advise on the software requirements as in whether a 2GB or 4GB video card would be best but I can say that the 2GB GTX 770 will support up to 4 displays + it is 256-bit which will provide very good in depth video quality for business or gaming.

Agree with Phillpower2 with regards to SLI, always less stable than a single card, also, Photoshop does not support any Crossfire or SLI configuration.   You can have 2 cards in the system but not linked.   If they are configured as SLI for gaming, you would need to disable SLI for Photoshop to run.   

Had the builds been solely for work, I would have suggested a Quadro card but that would be no good for gaming.

Both build would be great for gaming, the X79  would be much better for your work.

The bottleneck in both systems, (for work) will be the I/O sub-stream, hence the need for multiple HDDs.
