I have 3 laptops donated from a local business for use with the Scouts. Originally all of the were wiped clean by  their IT depatment had have copies of XP SP 3  2002 version on them.  Before they got to me 2 had Win 7 ultimate sp 1 put on them.. i think the win & came from a torrent and claim to be not genuine whenever I turn those 2 on. When I try to activate them using the product key the pc shows.. the prodcut key cannot be used to activate the system.

 

The two that have the Win 7 on them are

HP Elitebook 6930p

intel Core 2 Duo CPU

P8600 @2.4 ghz

2gb ram

32 bit os

 

The one with Win XP is

HP Compaq 6910P

Intel Core 2 Duo CPU

T7300 @ 2.0 ghz

0.97gb ram

 

I read on an HP forum this last weekend that Vista DVD has all vista programs on them and the COA determines which one is used. I have a copy of HP VIsta DVD and tried using the Business Vista OEMAct COA on each of the three laptops and received the following message

 

This pc is not supported by this system recovery disc. You will not be able to recover this system using these discs.

 

Some of the software we will be using has an online and offline version. The offline version currently only operates on Mircosoft windows but the online version requires a version of microsoft silverlight to download for ubuntu, linux or that I have been have been unsuccessful in getting to download.

 

Any idea where I can get a iso (download) of business vista OEMAct?

The Vista DVD you have is probably an HP recovery disk and will only work on the models it was designed for. What Microsoft Certificate of Authentication are on the Elitebooks? Do they have Vista ones? Technically, you are only support to reinstall from the HP recovery disks or recovery partition, but it is a little bit of a grey area. You can contact HP to see if you can get the recovery disks. If they no longer have them, there are places online where you can still order them.

I don't how it looks on your screen but if you can boot correctly and reach as far as where your icons are and the place seem dark no wallpaper and a "Windows genuine" notification at the low right corner of your screen or appears before the welcome screen... You can actually stop it. Just follow this goto "Start >> All programs >> Accessories >> command prompt. Right click at the command prompt and select "Run as administrator" in the prompt type slmgr -rearm hit enter and restart your computer. I am sure it will help. You can now change the wallpaper

I believe the COA is for WIndows Business Vista OEMAct since that appears on the sticker on the bottom of the laptops. When I go to computer only the C drive shows up under hard drive. The slmgr command did stop the message from appearing. I am was trying to see I could get the business vista working  before we actually bought copies of win 7 and installed them

You can build a Windows Vista DVD following the guide here, during install don't forget to select Windows Vista Business to match the license key you have on the COA.

Thanks for that link. I will try that today and let you know how it goes. The links appear to be broken. I will check back on them as indicated in the webpage.
