How many devices can connect to one hotspot?

I created a hotspot on my laptop with My WIFI Router software.I'm wondering how many devices can be connected?Will too many devices would cause slow connection?

You can connect up to 24 clients on 2.4Ghz wi-fi.

Although in some countries, like USA, the number of wi-fi channels is limited to 11.

And yes - the more devices are working simultaneously, the more each client's speed drops. Especially if someone downloads or uploads lots of data.
