Ok I have an interesting problem I've spent the last couple days working on. Unfortunately I am using remote assistance on my mother's computer so I'm not "THERE" to actually see the hardware.

She was given a HP5510 printer and it's acting a little funky. It will manually scan and copy if you use the buttons on the printer, but if you try printing anything from the computer it spits out a blank page. I've asked them to plug the machine into a different USB port, and I've uninstalled the device drivers 3 times but still nothing. And apperently HP does not have downloadable drivers for this model which seems a little hinky to me, but then again it is HP.

Anyways, I was thinking it was a glogged head problem, but then it wouldn't work fine using the manual buttons on the printer itself. Tried printing a test page and it apperently printed the top of the page where it says "Window printer test page", but then its a blank page after that.

She's running Windows 7 Home edition.

the other problem i have found that since she got the computer back from the store that cleans it up every year, the Windows Updates are not installing. It will install the optional downloads but not any of the security or essentials downloads.

If anyone could possbily help me with this I would be most grateful.

Hello dolface755

The security updates should be addressed first due to the risk of malware infection and if the problem has only happened since the store had the computer then they should put it right.

I could only find one HP 5510 printer which was the HP 5510e, the drivers (including for W7 32 and 64 - bit) are available from here

To install the new HP drivers etc;

Save the new drivers to the desktop.

Create a new restore point.

Uninstall all of the present HP software.

Shutdown the computer.

Disconnect the printer USB cable from the computer.

Restart the computer.

Install the new HP drivers, only connect the printer USB cable when an on screen message asks you to do so.

Check that the HP 5510 printer is set as the default printer in the Control Panel - Devices and Printers.

Test the printer.

If still no joy after trying the above, repeat each one of the steps above but restart the computer in Safe Mode to install the drivers.

Let us know how it goes.

Thank you very much for the information. I am not touching the printer or installing it for her until she finds out what the idiots she paid $500 to do spring cleaning on it. And now it wont install any of the patches or updates from Microsoft or Windows....Until that's done there's not point in trying to play with anything else
