I don't know what to do. Someone stole my Winodws XP start up disk for my computer. I'm not having problems with my computer but when I called the company that sold my computer they said that they do not have anymore start up disks for my computer. I don't know where to go to get a new start up disk. Can someone help me out??

My unit is a 2001. Are the disks very expensive? Another question I have is that I know that someone took my disk. Could they use it? Wouldn't I be the registered owner on it? Would it even work on someon elses computer?

Prices vary so check around.. No, they couldn't use it as it won't activate and would only be good on a Dell system (this was a Dell recovery disk right??)

Yes, it is a Dell computer. My boyfriend has the same type of computer as me and his start up disk says Windows XP starter pack 1. Could I use his if need be?

I also find it difficult to beleive that a 4 year old dell would not have a disk available for it. I think you should call them again.

if it is OEM xp recovery cd, a product key is usually not needed either.
the disk checks for specific hardware items to ensure it is in the right unit.

Every time I call Dell they either do not know what I'm talking about or I spoke to a lady not too long ago and she told me to upgrade my computer and that they do not make that kind of start up disk anymore.
