I have a Dell Inspiron laptop which I just replaced the hard drive in. I inserted the disk and changed BIOS to boot from cd/dvd first. It  comes up with a prompt saying that "Your CD/DVD drive during this boot cycle is f:", and then will not let me go any further until I put in a file name or command, and I have no clue what to put in there. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Lainers :welcome:

Some questions:

- Which was the Operating System installed before on the machine?

- What is the OS you are trying to install? and where did you get the install DVD?

Windows 7 for both, and the cd came with my computer

Any chance of uploading a image showing the prompt you got?

Did you check the BIOS to see if the Hard Disk is properly recognized? In some machines you can see the model and/or size of the Hard Drive.
