hi everyone,

when I turn on my daughters laptop the power button lights the hard drive spins but then shuts down without even diplaying that windows is booting up, this is approx. 5 seconds after the power button is pressed.

I have taken the battery out and held the power button down for 1 minute and then powered it with the battery out via the mains lead but it still does the same thing.

has anyone any ideas.

she has told me it wasn't dropped just started doing this.

many thanks in advance

Does the PC maker's logo show up when you boot?  Can you perhaps get into the BIOS/CMOS setup?

Doubt it's a malware issue then.  Sounds like a hardware issue.  You might try removing the hard drive and the CD/DVD if it has one.  Then see if it will stay on.  Maybe replace the power supply.   Probably going to have to either take it to the shop or junk it.
