I ran the report as directed but the report.txt document is blank.  The report does show up on the desktop but there is nothing included in the report itself.  I did boot into safe mode and unchecked lock taskbar and autohide was not enabled.  When I booted back into normal mode I was able to make a new tool bar with the start menu.  Not what I had before but something I was unable to do previously.

Run the following command:

CMD /C Reg Delete "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StuckRects2" /f

Restart the computer. This should delete the StuckRects2 key from your registry, which in turn will be recreated upon startup.

Let me know if the TaskBar and start Menu reappears upon the restart.

I  ran that and did not get the old took bar back.  I do have the new one with the quick launch tol bar.  However, when I have one window open and I minimize it, it disappears. Not sure how I can fix that.  I think the original tool bar may be on there as well, just not sure how to access it  Sorry if this is gibberis and I greatly appreciate all of your assistance thus far.

Press F11 if that does not work, press F11 again.

Please take a screenshot of your Taskbar and attach it to a reply.
  • You can do this by pressing the PrintScreen key.
  • Then go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Paint
  • In Paint, go up to Edit > Paste
  • Then Go up to File > Save As. Click the drop-down box to change the "Save As Type" to "JPEG", name it what you want, and save it on the desktop.
  • Then click Add Reply in this topic.
  • Scroll down to Attach Files
  • Click the Choose File button.
  • Locate the file you just saved, click on it, then click Open, then Attach this file.
  • You can attach it anywhere on the window..

Download the Taskbar Repair Tool by Kelly Thieriot. Extract its contents to the desktop. From the Taskbar Problem, select Minimized Programs Missing, and click on Repair. Follow the prompts.

Restart and let me know the outcome.

I am having issues downloading and running this app. There are some error messages that are not allowing me to install or uninstall programs. The windows installer service can't be accessed, file marked for deletion. I have gone to the microsoft pages and tried their solutions with no luck.  BTTray error as well. iexplorer will not open either.  When you double click on it, the screen flashes but then promptly disappears. Only chrome will open.  The index is also saying waiting to receive indexing status.

Not sure what the deal is and any other assistance you can provide would be appreciated.

Go to Start -> Run, type CMD and click OK. At the prompt type the following and press Enter:

CHKDSK /R

Schedule CHKDSK to run on your next startup and restart the computer.

Let CHKDSK check and recover your drive.

Let me know if that helps.

If still unsuccessful, Please download Farbar Service Scanner and run it on the computer with the issue.

  • Make sure the following options are checked:
    • Internet Services
    • Windows Firewall
    • System Restore
    • Security Center
    • Windows Update
    • Other Services
  • Press "Scan".
  • It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
  • Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

Download Services Repair tool, available here, and save it to your Desktop. Right click on it and select Run As Administrator, follow the prompts. It should reboot when it finishes. If not, please reboot it yourself.

Run Farbar Service Scanner once again and post its report.
