Hi to everyone:

I have a laptop which I bought 6 months ago(branded Toshiba). I usually don't have a problem with until recently, the update for the operating system windows 8 starts to fail therefore, my laptop stopped updating. I don't have any knowledge of what is wrong. Furthermore, my google chrome starts malfunctioning at times and displays a dialogue box(see the attached file).

Please help me with this matter.

Thanks in advance.

Hello jpqdepedro

Can you tell us which particular update failed to install.

For the Google Chrome issue, check in Control Panel - Programs and let us know how many Google Chrome entries there are.

Download then run Speccy and post the resultant url for us please, details here

Here is the output of speccy.

With regards to the update of the operating system, I'm sorry but I don't know which update is failing. I just can provide you with the list of updates as seen in the attached image.

Have you ever installed any Iobit software on your computer, I ask because I noted the following in Speccy IObit\LiveUpdate

Can I ask why you have not upgraded to 8.1 while it is still free to do so.

You can check what updates failed to install by doing the following;

To view your update history
  1. Open Windows Update by swiping in from the right edge of the screen (or, if you're using a mouse, pointing to the bottom-right corner of the screen and moving the mouse pointer up), tapping or clicking Settings, tapping or clicking Change PC settings, then tapping or clicking Update and recovery.

  2. Tap or click View your update history.

Make a note of the kb number of any that have failed and post them here.

For the updates in your screenshot, try manually installing them one by one, you can do this by unticking the very top box and then work your way through the list by ticking one box at a time to download and install them individually.

Yes, I do have an Iobit in my laptop, since I have needed this for uninstalling some of the softwares before in my laptop.

Attached herewith is the failed update of the windows. The other update with pending restart status can not push through since if an update fail, the changes made by the other updates are reverted.

I haven't updated it to 8.1 since it is taking too long.

First and foremost uninstall IOBIT, you don`t need it and it is known to cause problems as are all so called system optimiser programs, that is why you will not see them recommended on these forums, read miekiemoes' Blog and you will also see why.

You have Windows Defender which offers the same real time protection as Microsoft security Essentials protecting your machine, IOBIT has a so called form of AV bundled with it and this is most likely conflicting with Defender and causing you problems, I mentioned earlier IObit\LiveUpdate see here

One update that is failing is IE 10 and Speccy shows that it is installed already, if Chrome is your default browser then IE should be disabled in any event.

I asked in my reply #2

For the Google Chrome issue, check in Control Panel - Programs and let us know how many Google Chrome entries there are.

Can you answer this please.

I have already uninstalled the Iobit as you have instructed. Thanks for the tip.

With regards to the question you have imposed, I'm sorry but when I went to the device manager, all that are listed are the hardware in the computer as shown in the image attached so I can't really answer the question of how many since I cannot see any indication of Google Chrome here.

IOBIT

My apologies jpqdepedro, I should have said Control Panel

When you get to the control panel just click on Uninstall a program and it will show you a list of what is installed.

Disable IE 10, go to Control Panel > Programs > Turn Windows features on or off > Uncheck the IE 10 box and then click on OK.

Download then run TFC from here

See if Windows 8.1 will now download and install.

Let us know how it goes.
