A 120hz screen wont hurt your eyes. A lot of people use tv's as monitors, there is no reason you shouldn't
LCD could be easier on your eyes but the difference isn't substantial.

HD Ready TVs cannot muster anything beyond 1028x768, but that is not a bad thing. You'll find those in the cheap and that resolution paired with a big screen will actually be the most confortable experience while 1080p screens will provide a confortable refresh rate but everyhting will be so miniscule by default that you will have to change DPI settings in order to be able to read. That is, if you are using it to work. If you are using it for media, then the best resolution will provide the best picture quality, still, a good graphics card is absolutely paramount so that you reap the benefits of such a display.
