After I lock my computer to leave for awhile, my browsers, regardless if they are open or closed and I open them, dont work and get stuck in (not responding) mode. I have tried different combinations of closing and reopening but the only fix is to reboot the machine. It happens with all browsers, so not sure the source but thinking memory possibly.

 

Also, machine will freeze for 2 minutes every once and awhile, and you just have to let it sit and it comes back in about 3 minutes. crazy. Is this related to the other issue? I can see how a memory issue could cause both, but its only the browser and no other resident application.

• Then under the start up tab disable/un-tick all items.Hit Apply
• Under the Services Tab put a tick next to the box that says Hide all microsoft services.
• Un-tick all that remain.Hit Apply and Ok your way out of there.

Click Go and post the result.

 

 

Download Autoruns and Autorunsc Unzip it to your desktop.

Then double click autoruns.exe

After the scan is finished then click on File

The default name will be autoruns.arn make sure to save it as Autoruns.txt under the file type option.

In other words make sure it is a .txt file instead of .arn Attach the text in your next reply.

For now referring back to the clean boot instructions,  please reverse that for me.

 

Now lets then do this...

 

Step 1:              .

 

No need for using the registry cleaner function of CCleaner!!

 

I suggest that you download CCLEANER then run it, hit the option's button then settings,put a tick next to Run Ccleaner when the computer starts.
Also when in options go to advanced tab and put a tick next to close program after cleaning.
This will automate the temporary file removal on your machine and keep it speedy.
Disable all of the start ups on the machine except your antivirus.
To disable hit the tools button then the start up button,then disable.

 

Step 2:      .

 

Hit the start button at the bottom left hand corner of your Screen.
Type or copy and paste appwiz.cpl into the Run Box.
Hit enter.
Scroll down to the following item(s): Note: If you encounter a program that will not remove or is not listed then skip it please.

As an alternative you may use Revo Uninstaller Freeware Here is a good tutorial on the use of Revo Uninstaller.

Right Click one at a time and select remove.
Now close the programs and features window.
Once finished reboot the machine.

 

Step 3:    .

 

Then remove AVG from your machine with the tool in the link below.

Step 4:      .

 

• Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop.
• Close any open windows
• Double click the TFC icon to run the program. (Vista/7/8 Users, Right Click and select Run as Admin)
• TFC will close all open programs itself in order to run
• Click the Start button to begin the process
• Allow TFC to run uninterrupted
• Once its finished it should automatically reboot your machine, if it doesn't, manually reboot to ensure a complete clean.

Step 5:    .

 

Install a less problematic Antivirus.

Once you have completed the above steps, then please see below.

 

Step 1:    .

 

Reset your hosts file to default, using the fix it in the link below.

Download Autoruns and Autorunsc Unzip it to your desktop.

Then double click autoruns.exe

After the scan is finished then click on File

The default name will be autoruns.arn make sure to save it as Autoruns.txt under the file type option.

In other words make sure it is a .txt file instead of .arn Attach the text in your next reply.

ok but please confirm 2 things; 1) do I change back the settings in MSconfig first before the new changes, and 2) do I skip the first step (#1) for CCleaner or not?

You reverse the steps for the clean boot then reboot.  Make sure and re-enable all of the services!!

 

Then follow the steps starting with CCleaner.

 

There are those who feel that using Msconfig should only be used for diagnostics, so that is why I am having you use the third party software CCleaner to disable your start ups.
