To start off, I know it's not my internet connection or router. Other people on the same network use the internet fine. I've even tested this laptop in other places and it has the same problems.

 

So I get really high latency when I ping Google for some reason (300+  but for now it's down to 170). That's just the least of my problems, I guess-- whenever I'm doing something that requires an active connection, it'll time out sometimes. This occurs when I'm playing an online game, connected to a MU*, etc. I also very frequently fail to log in to or connect to things (host not found, server not found for browsers, etc). This occurs repeatedly until I finally do connect, but then my connection is just dropped later on.

 

I actually posted this in the malware removal section, but I'm not sure if that's the right place. I /think/ my computer is clean because I've put it through lots of virus scans already and nothing's been picked up. I tried checking some of my registry keys and they look fine, but I can't be sure. My tcp/ip settings are untouched, I think. I've tried resetting the stack, resetting winsock, flushing the DNS cache, and other things. I really have no idea what my problem is.

 

The weirdest things? Even if I run in safe mode, my ping still seems to be abnormally high. When I try disabling all but the required Windows services on startup, the ping command doesn't even work.

Open your device manager, hit the start button then copy and paste devmgmt.msc into the start search box hit enter.

Left click the + next to network adapters, right click and un-install your wireless driver and your ethernet driver, make sure and do not tick the box that says delete driver.

Then, click the View menu and select Show hidden devices
Then hit view again and select devices by connection.

Then scroll down right click and uninstall the drivers listed below,dont worry these will be reinstalled upon reboot by windows.

Then once the tool has completed, and displayed the best DNS for your machine, apply the settings.

Run a Command as Administrator from the Windows 7 ...

Copy and paste the content of the code box, one at a time hitting enter after each.

ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns

 

 

Then disable Ipv6 with this Ms Fixit.

Remove the tunnel adapters, with this Ms Fixit.

Download TCP Optimizer.
Save it to your desktop.
Right Click Run As Administrator.
At the bottom right hand corner, of TCP optimizer select optimal
The hit apply, ok, and ok again then reboot.

Huh, miraculous! It seems to have worked. My ping's still a bit oddly high, but other than that, I'm connecting to and staying on my various online things, so that's great. I'll keep you posted, and I wish I could manifest my gratitude some other way-- this problem has been bugging me for years!

 

It was happening over wired and wireless (I'm wired right now, I prefer it). The DNS server the program found for me was 226% faster, wow! I'm in Southeast Asia, by the way.

Update: problems are back, even after trying different DNS servers. Seems like malware, but even clean boot scans pick nothing up.

I suggest that you download CCLEANER then run it, hit the option's button then settings,put a tick next to Run Ccleaner when the computer starts.
Also when in options go to advanced tab and put a tick next to close program after cleaning.
This will automate the temporary file removal on your machine and keep it speedy.
Disable all of the start ups on the machine except your antivirus.
To disable hit the tools button then the start up button,then disable.

 

Reset your hosts file, with the Ms fix it below.

Hit the start button at the bottom left hand corner of your Screen.
Type or copy and paste appwiz.cpl into the Run Box.
Hit enter.
Scroll down to the following item(s): Note: If you encounter a program that will not remove or is not listed then skip it please.

As an alternative you may use Revo Uninstaller Freeware Here is a good tutorial on the use of Revo Uninstaller.

Seems to be working nicely now-- connectivity to everything smooth and unhindered. Ping is still unusually high, but actual latency when doing things like playing games doesn't seem to be an issue.

Ok, keep us posted. Just an FYI Hotspotshield is known for causing issues, although sometimes upon removal it can kill your internet connection all together.....

 

Let us know how things are in a couple of days....

I don't use Hotspot shield anymore, thankfully. I guess I need to do a lot of cleanup.

So far so good, but there's still the odd hiccup (pages still fail to load sometimes, connections drop once in a while), but at the very least it's much better than before. I'll wait some more and see if it gets better/worse.

There are tools that target the removal of HSS but they are considered malware tools and I can not suggest them here. What I would like you to do is create a new thread in the malware removal area. Like I said before removing HSS can be a process..

 

Under the guidance of the malware team you should have no issue.
